A four-year-old girl was left in agony after reaching inside an Aldi salad and being stung by a huge wasp.

A girl with the name Elliemay Martin screamed when an insect struck her while she grabbed some lettuce in her salad bag.

The insect which was identified to be a wasp then stung her dad Anthony, 26 also after falling out of the 89p bag onto the girl's lap.

The Sun reported that her dad was hurt as he tried to bat the insect off.

Fortunately Aldi has apologised for the awful and disgracing incident and also the little girl's mother Rebecca, 29, has been given medical advice to keep an eye out for them getting a fever.

The Mother said: “I thought Elliemay was making it up at first because she didn’t want to eat the salad, but she was in hysterics and obviously in pain.

“It was horrific. You don’t think something like that is going to jump out of a bag of Aldi salad.”

Rebecca, of Gateshead, and Anthony - who also have a son Joshua, aged 18 months - put the wasp in a jar where it eventually died.

Supermarket giant Aldi has apologised for the incident and and is working with its supplier to find out how the insect got into the bag.
