Must Nigerians go through all these sufferings to get their bio-metric data updated?
MTN recently started sharing unusable credits to selected customers as a bait to get their bio-metric data updated. People are made to enter the code “*559*40# “to confirm the silly bonus.
When you dial the above code, a confirmation text would be sent to you that you have been given a bonus of #20,000, #10,000 or #5,000 credit respectively, depending on how you recharge. The bonus does not reflect when you check your balance. One is expected to go to a nearby MTN office to update his bio-metric data or re-register his or her SIM before the bonus reflects in his or her call credit balance.
Early this morning, hundreds of people were seen boarding buses to MTN offices for the bio-metric updates as to have a workable bonus. The situation was very embarrassing as many customers who had received same message from MTN were seen trying to register but to no avail. Even aged and sick people were seen under the sun unattended to for several hours.
MTN!!! Why not release an online Channel through which people can get themselves registered. I guess you can’t do this for the sake of data theft. Ok, why not recruit professionals and spread them around the localities of the states for this purpose. Must you suffer people? I don’t know how many times you guys would be sanctioned to learn, because the situation here can cause a deadly stampede. I don’t know about your area, but it is so terrible in Anambra Centers.
