The outbreak of Lassa Fever in Nigeria is becoming a major problem Nigerians are facing. Recently, a nursing mother and her baby where killed by this deadly virus in Port Harcourt, the River State Commissioner Of Health confirmed this incident saying.

"First Incident happened between December 30, 2015, and January 1, to a mother and later to her two weeks old child. Yesterday at about 10:00 pm, I retrieved a call that a mother ad child died in a hospital following similar and serious fever which killed them and was suspected to be a Lassa fever, After series of test conducted on them, it was confirmed they died of the disease."

What is Lassa Fever?

This is a west African illness that was discovered in the year 1969 when two Nigerian missionary Nurses died. It's an acute viral illness.
How is it transmitted
Rodents can transmitted Lassa Fever.
This deadly virus can be transmitted by an infected rodent, when you come in contact (bites, touch etc) it can also be transmitted from person to person, even in your food unprotected form this rodents and consumption of effected once can be a method of transmission.
How many can get infected

In times, over 100,000 to 300,000 people in west African countries have been effected by the disease, with about 5000 recorded deaths. The infection can be viral
Symptoms of Lassa Fever

The signs of Lassa Fever manifests between 1-3 weeks after it has been contacted, this are the kind of effects that are disclose, they are, serious fever, Pain behind the chest, back pain abdominal pain, sore throat, face swelling, conjunctivitis, protein in the urine(proteinuria) Mucosal bleeding, vomiting and Diarrhea. some other effects can be tremors. encephalitis and hearing loss.
