Chancellor of the University, Dr David Oyedepo, who disclosed this at a news conference in Ota yesterday, said 1,096 students would graduate at the convocation scheduled for Friday, June 19.

According to him, 565 students made second class upper division, 415 second class lower, while 36 made third class.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the news conference was part of a week-long activities marking the institution’s fourth convocation.

Oyedepo said  19 post-graduate students would receive Master of Science degree, while three distinguished Nigerians would be honoured with doctoral degrees.

“The university is committed to producing for the country’s labour force, active agents of change,’’ he said and  described education as the only vehicle for national transformation, adding that there was need to invest more in the sector.

“No nation rises above her investment in education.  We are in a revolution and we want this to be reflected both in the teaching, research and community works,” Oyedepo said.

He said the university would continue to explore exchange programmes with foreign universities for the overall development of its curricula.

“International scholars will be interacting with their counterparts in the University, in a bid to contribute to the university’s academic programmes,’’ Oyedepo said.

No first generation university has produced this number of first class students in one years alone. Do you believe that the standards in these private universities are lower than the ones in federal universities?
