***recommends compulsory retirement of two officers

The high-powered Board of Inquiry constituted by the Nigerian Army to investigate allegations of unprofessional conduct of its officers during the 2014 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states on Monday submitted its report to the Chief of Army Staff at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, recommending the compulsory retirement of two officers.

Chairman of the Board and General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Adeniyi Oyebade, while submitting the report, stated that the Board placed advertorials in the media requesting for memoranda from the public before sitting was commenced, adding that a total of 23 officers and over 100 soldiers appeared before it as well as 62 civilians.

A statement issued by the acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, quotes Oyebade as noting that the Board made far reaching recommendations that would assist the Nigerian Army and the nation in the future, stressing that two officers were recommended for compulsory retirement from the Nigerian Army, three were to lose their command and one was recommended for prosecution for collecting financial gratification.

The statement reads, “Other recommendations include placing 15 officers on watch list, 9 officers were to be further investigated by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission over allegations leveled against them. While 6 officers were to face an audit committee and 62 officers (mostly of the rank of Majors-below) were to be given Letters of Displeasure and to appear before their respective General Officers Commanding for counseling.”

The Board Chairman went on to thank the Nigerian Army for the opportunity to serve and reiterated the Board’s members’ willingness to serve when called upon for any other such assignment. He also acknowledged the support and cooperation they received from the Nigerian Police and other security agencies, as well as the general public.

Speaking while receiving the report, the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt-Gen. TY Buratai, thanked the Board for a thorough and dispassionate job devoid of influence from any quarters.

He expressed delight that the Board, knowing the gravity and implication of their report on the careers of officers and impact on the Nigerian Army, discharged their assignment diligently and professionally. He assured them that the report would be reviewed accordingly, in line with Nigerian Army’s legal and administrative procedures.

The Army Chief also enjoined members of the Board to share knowledge acquired in the course of their assignment with their colleagues for the benefit of the Nigerian Army and the nation. He further reiterated assurances that the Nigerian Army would continue to remain professional and apolitical in the discharge of its responsibilities.

It's so clear that the election was highly tampered with. It's about time some people account for their misdeeds.

Among the benefits of having PMB as our leader, No investigation would have been carried out if the last government had been in power.

Unfortunately, nothing has set for Fayose. Even if he is indicted, the options two nail him look practically impossible.

1. If Fayemi approach the court, he will have to Prove that the action of the army had effects on votes cast. Beside, the election petition window is past. Not forgeting that FÀyemi has exhausted his legal options with respect to Ekiti 2014 poll.

2. The other option is to send the report to EKSHA for impeachment of Fayose and his Deputy. If this option is considered, the EKSHA(being a stooge of Fayose) will not hesitate to kick it out.

However, he could still face prosecution after serving out his term in 2018.

The report seems not to have indicted any major political office holder but trust me, this is just a springboard for subsequent events that will soon unfold. This is a preliminary report to me and I know the Fayose will be smelling his own fart soon enough. Just a matter of time.

Not sure, but he's protected by the constitution. The only way he can be removed and then possibly face prosecution is through the State House of Assembly.

Very interesting times lie ahead.

if other civilians involved are indicted, prosecuted and convicted, fayose have no choice but to move from ekiti house to prison house after his tenure.
Anyway, na still government get the two houses, and na tax go feed am for the two. He can even contest and will win the gubernatorial election there.

Yeah, and given the combination of the "foodstuffs" he "ate" during that election, I'm doubtful he'd be able to stand the stench of his own fart.

The man saw all these coming, why he kept cutting kpomo and buying soup ingredients all over the place in Ekiti to create the impression "I'm one of you ordinary people". What he was doing is "raising an army of ordinary citizens" of Ekiti state that would be ready to fight his battle for him when the death knell sounds on his admin.

But let the people of Ekiti be guided, the days of impunity are long gone. If the law wills it, Fayose would be removed and face trial. If you stand in the way of justice, you'd be FORCIBLY removed and that would be the end of your story.

Enough said.
