The demolition caterpillar of Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, western Nigeria, Monday struck at Ogunpa market as it destroyed thousands of shops.

The demolition team stormed the market in the company of tight security provided by armed men of Nigeria Civil Defence.

The team did not give the traders opportunity to pack their wares as they destroyed the wares along with the shops.
According to an official in the team who spoke under anonymity, “We can’t give them any chance to pack their wares because they have been given enough chance. We have served them notice for a very long time that we are coming to carry out the exercise.

“‘In fact, for your information, this exercise ought to have been carried out since last year December but because they begged the government to allow them sell for the Christmas and New Year, we were asked to hold on until now that we are instructed to move in and destroy. What were they waiting for? They are too stubborn. When we were destroying the other side, people that we have not gotten to were sitting down and looking at us as if we will not get to them. Sorry, we are demolishing sizable number of shops today.”

During the exercise, some traders were seen weeping and attempting to stop the demolition team who did not listen to them.
P.M.NEWS learnt that the demolition will continue till tomorrow.

A statement issued by the government said that about 1000 shops would be built in the demolished market under public-private partnership scheme with modern infrastructure.

They assured that the new shops will be allocated to the occupants of the market, allaying fears of the traders that no new person would be allocated shops until all that were on ground have been allocated.

it is time 4 south westerner to get rid of all public shanties market, so that ipob boys won't insult them on their own land again. They shld restructure all their market place frm Akure 2 lagos, so as 2 get genuine buzzmen who sale quality goods and not fake product. Lay rules & regulation 2 guide them and see how d criminals once will fade away

All these demolition will lead to outright inflation, they should have done this ages ago, not now that the economy is fragile.

serves them right.

return to the east, south south or leave the country.

the clearing of the new spare parts market in IGWE OCHA has commenced after which the traders will be allocated space for their shops that will be built and they will be part of the process.

That is how a reasonable government handle issues of this nature in a country ravaged by unemployment and insecurity.

You're just a bitter soul.
Most of these people you're ridiculing are far better than you in all ramifications.
You can always rejoice now while forgetting that there are thousands of your kinsmen who live in the SE and depend on the goodwill of the indigenes there to survive.

Just before ipob goons start to display their ignorance, Ogunpa market is about 95% Yoruba.

The level of jealousy and envy in the heart of an average yoruba is alarming. The youths has been so much brainwashed by the ruling elites, into believing that one of the reasons the larger population of their youths remain unemployed and are 'never-do-well',is simply because the Igbos are taking up all available opportunities.
Until the Yorubas carryout a form of cultural revolution and social re-orientation,am sorry to say this, their youths may never get it right, more like a wasted generation.
As for the market demolition, good if done with good intention!when new markets are built, the rightful owners and those with tenacity of purpose, will as usual dominate it.
