Ben, there are usually quite a few on ebay:

As you mention you require all the pipework too, I would imagine you're either supercharging a regular Mercedes 230 motor, or converting a different car altogether. In which case, I'd look beyond Mercedes, as they don't make the 'chargers, they're built by Eaton, and come in an array of different sizes - Eatom M45, M62, M81 etc for different engine sizes.

What exactly do you want to fit the Eaton to?
Re: Supercharger From Mercedes Kompressor Needed by Benasayer(m): 10:58am On Jun 19, 2009
mate, had a look at some the audis you put up, very nice motors! smiley
i wanted to put one on my 6 gen celica. i thought since there were quite a few mercs around lagos it would be relitively easy and cheap to pick on up from a wrecked car or in the market somewhere,
so was trying to avoid buying a whole kit. wanted to have a go at it this weekend as well smiley

Thanks for your comment about the Audi's!

I guessed you were looking to fit the 'charger to an engine other than a Mercedes unit.
You do realise you'll need larger injectors, and will need to upp your fuel pressure?

You'll also need to map your ECU, to alter the injector duty cycles, and retard the ignition, since the engine in your car is MAF-based, and won't have a MAP sensor. A MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure) is needed, to allow your timing to retard under boost, if you want to avoid detonation.

What boost are you looking to run?
Re: Supercharger From Mercedes Kompressor Needed by Benasayer(m): 11:29am On Jun 19, 2009
Yeh i do. Ive also posted something similar on my specialist celica forum to see what they say.
I was sort of hoping there wouldnt be too much of a problem because my engine is almost the same as the turbo version. I think some guys have done it before leaving everything stock. Im not looking for massive power or boost. i think ive got a map sensor, but ill have to confirm this. I'm hoping if i dont run a large amount of boost then i can leave it stock,  and the current fuel pump, injectors etc will be able to cope.

I'm also stuck with a place to put it without having to have it come out the bonnet, engine bay is kind of cramped.

Re: Supercharger From Mercedes Kompressor Needed by Nobody: 1:03pm On Jun 19, 2009
Yes, your engine bay is rather tight - the Eaton is a bulky unit too.
Mounting a 'charger low down is possible - you may have to lose your aircon compressor (if one is fitted) and mount the 'charger in it's place.

Another option (and one I'd recommend) would be to install a turbocharger. As Toyota already make a turbocharged version of your engine, I'd be inclined to do the same, using mostly OEM Toyota parts.

Remember - it's not just as simple as slapping on a supercharger, it's also about calculating flow vs boost at a given rpm range.
Get it wrong, and your 2,0-16V will grenade in a most spectacular way.
Re: Supercharger From Mercedes Kompressor Needed by Benasayer(m): 1:17pm On Jun 19, 2009
yeah, its seeming a bit difficult. Ive not seen the turbo version around yet, so dont even no if i can get the parts, but if was going to do that i would have either swapped the engine or bought the turbo to start with, i just thought that supercharging would be either. Ive spoken to a few people and found a guy thats done it with a M45 on the newer celica.

What i really wanted to get out of this was just maybe an extra 10/20 hp without damaging the engine or the wallet smiley but i dont think i could survive without the aircon sad

I am a bit more concerned now having looked further into it and listened to u, it seems to get harder and harder to do. I still want to give it a go though, problem is im not sure if theres anywhere over here that can help with setting it up :S
Re: Supercharger From Mercedes Kompressor Needed by Nobody: 2:24pm On Jun 19, 2009
Ah, the old aircon debate. . .

Well, you've got to make certain sacrifices for performance, we can't have it all.
A home-brewed turbo conversion isn't difficult to do, and it's easier to package into a relatively tight space.
You can run low-pressure turbo @ 6psi without any engine mods, or intercooling, to release up to 30hp more.

If you can find an Eoton that will fit without carving up your hood, it'll work too.

The Eaton M45 is a bit on the small side for your motor though - I know it's rated up to 2,0 engines, but it'll be nearer its limits, as opposed to an Eaton M62, which would be my choice. . .
Re: Supercharger From Mercedes Kompressor Needed by Benasayer(m): 2:43pm On Jun 19, 2009
i was under the impression that a supercharger would be a lot easier to fit and live with, but from wat uve said about a turbo im begining to wonder. so literaly just carving up the exhaust manifold and sticking in a turbo with a manual boost controler and the cone airfilter on the end would be easier and more simple for what i want,
it wouldnt suffer without a charge cooler? the turbo would need an oil supply?, possibly with an oil cooler as well? so confused!!
do u have an idea of wat vehicles i could possibly nab a turbo off?
you are now my new hero!! smiley
Re: Supercharger From Mercedes Kompressor Needed by Nobody: 3:57pm On Jun 19, 2009
On the contrary, a turbo is easier to package, and retrofit - superchargers work best on large capacity V6 / V8 motors, and can sit snugly within the "V".

Making a tubular exhaust manifold, with equal-length runners presents no difficulties either - using the OEM manifold as a template, any competent fabricator should find it easy to do, they'll make the flanges as the base, then build the runners-to-turbo flange to accept a Garrett T3.

A manual boost controller on a low-pressure set-up isn't worth spending the money on, though you can configure it to limit boost to 6psi. At 6psi, the intake air temperature won't be high enough to warrant an intercooler, all it'll do is create more lag due to pressure drop.

Turbo oil supply should be plumbed from a main oil gallery - a banjo adapter fitted between the engine block and oil pressure switch works fine, with braided lines supplying the turbo itself. You'll also need a similar braided line fo the oil return, this will go from the turbo's underside to the rear of the sump, which is clear of oil. The adapter for the sump should be fitted at the highest point of the sump, just below the gasket line, as oil return relies on gravity. It should also be free of kinks.

If your engine doesn't run an oil cooler, you can fit a thermostatically-controlled one between the oil filter and block, or a remote air-to-air cooler, plumbed from the OEM oil filter housing.

As for sources of Garrett T3's, there are several donor vehicles sitting in junkyards - Ford Escort RS Turbo being the most common. The Garretts also come with integral wastegates, which makes your pipework loads easier.
Re: Supercharger From Mercedes Kompressor Needed by Benasayer(m): 9:25am On Jun 22, 2009
ahh mate thank you so much. uve been so helpfull smiley
but u do know that im in nigeria, and im not sure that there are that many ford escort RS turbos kicking about, again i get the point with the integral wastegates. I think that under careful supervision i could get one of the fitters for the company i work for to do the mani and piping. hes very good with fabrication. but im still stuck with which car i could get one off. been seeing a lot of the lexus soaras around, but i believe they r twin turbo, but they do have integral wastegates from what i can remember. would a deisel turbo work? or are they designed differently?
