The traditional ruler of Nkwerre Community in Nkwere Local Government council of Imo State, Eze Chijioke Okwara has called on the Federal Government to declare the South-East geopolitical zone an emergency security area.

The embattled monarch who recently regained his freedom from yet-to-be identified kidnappers at Ubakala in the Umuahia South Council area of Abia State said to stem the upsurge of violent crimes including abduction and kidnappings now ravaging the zone, the Federal Government must set the necessary machinery in motion to change the “get rich quick syndrome of the youths.”

The Eshii of Nkwerre spoke in his palace where he gave a detailed account of his gory and blood-chilling experience in the hands of his abductors to his people. The traditional ruler explained that he was on his way to Aba on a visit to his people on that fateful day of June 8, 2009 when all of a sudden, a vehicle marked “HRH” double-crossed him at Ubakala, just opposite the NTA station and the occupants instantly whisked him away to an unknown destination after shooting indiscriminately into the air ostensibly to scare away motorists and passersby.

The fear-stricken royal father said he was taken to a very thick, dark intimidating bush by the hoodlums where he was detained for four days with rigorous interrogations.
Armed with sophisticated dangerous arms with cocaine and Indian hemp as their daily bread, the monarch said that he only escaped death by whiskers when he reminded his abductors of the blood relationship between the Nkwerre people and Ngwa and also spoke to them in their dialect.

Eze Okwara whose pathetic narration was intermittently punctuated with shouts of “praise the Lord, by his people said that his ability to speak Ngwa dialect effectively while in captivity earned him the sympathy of his kidnappers.

Urging his people to always remain prayerful to God, the traditional ruler expressed gratitude to Governor Ikedi Ohakim, the Senate President, David Mark Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aloysius Okorie, and other sons and daughters of his community who contributed immeasurably to his release.
Also speaking, governor Ohakim’s aide on revenue generation and mobilization and prominent Nkwerre native, Mr. Rex Anunobi urged the Federal government to strengthen and intensify neigbourhood security watch among the people.
