Do we really know what true rastafarianism stands for?I think it is the blackman's interpretation of true christianity,a reverse of the story, with him,(blackman) in the picture as the messiah and the player.

We need to claim the authority and live with it,we are what we say we are,it is our own makings.

Only true love can conquer.

Is this not more religion than culture? Or more culture than religion? Either way, good luck with your research.

Translation - You are seeking death, idiot boy for disrespecting King Selassie I. I'll break your two feet and stab your eyes with true information about Rastafari.

Girl, you sure have a way of expressing yourself.

"Why afta yu feed di youth di baby still a cry?" Point that right back at the Rasta's. Maybe, aspects of your knowledge are still incomplete and some over idealised? We have had a traumatic past.

Greetings in the name of Jah, Haile Sellassie First.
Rastafari is a strongly syncretic Abrahamic religion that draws extensively from the Bible. Adherents look particularly to the New Testament Book of Revelation, as this is where they find the prophecies about the divinity of Haile Selassie. Rastas claim that they, and the rest of the black race, are descendants of the ancient twelve tribes of Israel, cast into captivity outside Africa as a result of the slave trade.

Michelin, how can u differentiate culture from religion?

On a more serious note,if there is any true belief that exist today,it is rastafarianism, because it is based on true love, simplicity, self consciouness and self empowerment, exactly what a blackman needs right now, that is if he must believe in something.

Personally,i am not a folower of any faith but i identify with rastafarianism, just like do with African Traditional Religion, they give black people voice, identity, spiritual eyes and ears to the world.

They are two different things and one is not equal to the other.

The bible was written by men for men (read the preface).

Religion is mans way of striving to a higher level of existence. Religions always start in good faith, but end up being tools of power and division; so you have Rasta's and baldheads, Moslems and khafirs, Jews and gentiles, Christians and heathen.
However, if you reason that the rain falls for everyone, the sun shines on all crops and the overriding principle that God created society - not the individual; then you don't need religion to guide your steps.

Afterall, no person (priest or scientist) can define life, so why would anyone feel that they can dispence divine truth?

That said, I do love Rasta philosophy (maybe not the weed).

@ Beaf,
WHAT A FOOL, this person you speak of. to turn the other cheek and leave him alone to his own ignorance would be sensible. but on the other hand he is confused or just ignorant, he is just looking at the stereotypical view of rasta which so many people today think. He needs to learn the truth of rasta, so to approach him with anger may be necessary, so he knows he is wrong. teach him what rastafari is about so that he can overstand and correct him self. than see if he still feels the same way, weather he wanted to smoke ganja or starts to embrace the deeper meaning of Rastafari.

Blessing, and much respect,

There are two groups of Rastafarians, one group is known for the marijuana also called ganja or reefer that they smoke. The other group is considered the real Rastafarians, they live in the mountains and practice a pure way of life. They refer to those who sell drugs and smoke marijuana and hashish as rascals. Are you Rasta or Rascal?

Almost stereotypical of the Rastaman is the use of herb. This needs to be set straight: not all Rastas smoke marijuana. Reggae great Lucky Dube, for example, says that if God wanted us to smoke, he would have created us with chimneys. The majority of Rastas, however, prefer to smoke ganja. Ganja is seen not as a 'drug' or something to get 'high', but as a spiritual aid. It gives Rastas insight and helps meditation. Marijuana is sometimes referred to as the "Holy Herb" and Rasta legend states that it grew on King Solomon's tomb, perhaps the wisest person from the Bible.
Norman Hugh Redington protests the Rasta stereotype in his "Sketch of Rastafarian History" that "pious Rastas do not smoke marijuana recreationally" but rather smoke, as Macka B sings, "fe good meditation."

He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth; (Psalm 104:14)
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat." (Genesis 1:29)
