Today is a National Holiday in the US in honour of Dr/Rev Martin Luther King jr.... main speaker of the Civil Rights Movement that peacefully protested discriminatory laws and injustices that prevented Blacks in particular from enjoying basic human rights....the rights that are today taken for granted. He was assassinated on April 4, 1968. This holiday is the only US National Holiday observed for one person... no president nor anyone else has a holiday in his honour. As we strive to secure visa and choose any place to vacation in the US... let us pause to learn about and honour MLK for without him our freedom to roam freely would not be possible. |
