Protest: Sagamu Steel Nig. Ltd. (sunflag) Vs. Nig. Worker Over SLAVERY. by hillso7(m): 9:04am On Jan 18, 2016
Ongoing protest which has led to the blocking of major road along Ikorodu-sagamu express way by workers of sagamu steel Nig. Ltd a sister company to sunflag Nig. ltd owned and managed by Indians over what I refer to as MODERN SLAVERY.
To start with, how could a company as big as this that makes millions of naira daily since 2013 be operating without a single staff except the personnel manager? All its workers are either casual or contract staff.
Worker are paid #700 per day and are subjected to work 12hrs (7am-7pm) daily Monday-Sunday with no break, no holiday, no leave or even annual incentive in our fatherland.
As if that is not enough, the workers are being sacked with no prior notice on weekly basis and they illegally bring in Indians (expatriates) who cannot pen down even their names.
To cut it short, they are able to achieve all these with help of the personnel manager Mr. Douglas Uko who has made all things possible to prevent UNIONISM in the organization with the intention of converting all casual workers to contract since he gets returns from the contractors every 2 weeks.
Workers have decided that they no longer want the presence of the personnel manager Mr. Douglas Uko in the organization that HE MUST GO and enough is enough.
We use this medium to call on all well-meaning Nigerian to help us in this fight. All the lawyers that fight for Nig. citizens voluntarily, this is the time, save Nigerians from this MODERN SLAVERY by Indians. Thank you.

One thing I can pen down from this is the fact that a fellow countryman helps in exploiting his own people. That person is worse than the employers.

@Op,i know how you feel.I was a victim too at African Foundry on the same ikorodu/shagamu road. The funniest part is the fact that its the HR/Admin managers that helps these Indians also the Police. And 95% of these Indians entered Bigeria illegally.I was fired @ AFL without a letter of termination of service not to talk of notice of disengagement .Each new day is presumed to be your last.
@OP,its better you contact a particular journalist @ Punch,he loves stories like this.
