Lassa fever can be treated....with ribavarin.

The catch is that the drug must be started early....and since the early symptoms of Lassa can look like common malaria or typhoid......plus many patients come from far away places.....delay can be fatal.

But the good thing is that people exposed to Lassa patients who have not fallen sick can start taking ribavarin....so that they won't fall ill.

Re-vaccine....in the good old days, they would take the serum from a Lassa survivor and inject it into a sick person.Sometimes it worked. Sometimes it did not.

The tactics the previous minister used were previously developed,long before he came into office...for polio eradication.

Plus....Ebola is not native to Nigeria.

Additionally....the first patient was isolated in a good hospital. Had he ended up in a ''General Hospital'' in say Ajegunle......

Ebola was spread also by patients absconding from care.

Plus....it is very easy to set up an isolation unit should it reach the SE.

The North is the area most at risk.
