Those Defecting To APC Are Parasites - Akande by NOC1(m): 10:50am On Jan 22, 2016
Chief Bisi Akande, a former governor of Osun state and former interim national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to insinuations that President Muhammadu Buhari was trying to edge him and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu out of political reckoning.

Speaking in a recent interview with Vanguard, Akande said to the best of his knowledge, he and the president were in the best of agreement.

The APC chieftain added that he also had a good relationship with Tinubu.

“What Buhari is thinking about me is a question you have to put forward to Buhari but as at last Monday, I was still talking to the presidency,” he said.

Akande described those defecting as political parasites who have killed their original host and now running to a new host.

He noted that the APC must be careful with these parasites and prevent them from killing the party.

When asked what he has to say about the continuous defection of politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC, he replied: “The situation is like bringing together two pieces of wood to make furniture. If the wood is weak, the furniture will not be strong enough. It is true that we put the party (APC) together in a hurry and we put it together by merging political parties but before it became a political party, and glued into one, election had come and we seemed to be more concerned with election than the making of the party.”

Akande said he has never defected and will never defect.

The APC chieftain said he is ready to join the army of people that will go back to the farm as Nigeria needs to concentrate on how to feed herself.

“Enough of riding Okada all over the streets, we must all go back individually to make sure that we are able to feed ourselves.

“In the olden days when we were young, the patriarch of a home, as soon as a child becomes of age and ready to marry, they give him a portion of land where he would start cultivating, from the first harvest, he will start feeding his family, no more taking from the father,” he said.

The Nigerian political scene has been experiencing a tsunami of defections. Since the ruling APC defeated the PDP in the 2015 presidential election, politicians have been switching party allegiance.

Idris Jimoh, the former deputy chairman of the PDP in Kogi state, recently defected to the APC with his supporters.

Earlier in the week, no fewer than 500 women in Udaba community, Etsako Central local government area of Edo state dumped their parties for the PDP.

The thing is that they are always decamping to any political party that becomes the ruling party for greener pasture.
