In recorded history of this our civilization no epidemic has been able to wipe out the human race. But it has always been a reoccurring decimal that when these global threats debut they are not taken seriously at the beginning until the numbers of deaths start rising. This is truer in our poor underdeveloped countries.
Yes, we the people and our governments place very low value on our lives and the media in the developed countries treat our threat as such. No adequate publicity. If the dreaded Ebola had been tackled head on at the beginning most of those that lost their lives to it would have been alive today. Now is lassa fever. If we all mobilize to defeat this scourge, just a few months we shall be looking at victory.
Until the governments and the civil societies mobilize us, I think we can do these few things to be help ourselves.

Rats:
(1) Rats will not be in your house if you make sure all holes are covered.

(2) If you must chase and kill rats with sticks, be sure to dispose such sticks and the killed rats properly. Incineration or deep burying is recommended.

(23) For now, don't mind the cost, do not reuse rat gum.

(4) Avoid use of the regular iron rat traps and fancy chamber baits. Unless you are prepared to dispose them with their kill.
