Soul travel is simply the process of Soul going back to God by moving consciously step by step through the different levels of Heaven by expanding its awareness.

dreams are simply experiences that soul have in the inner planes in an unconscious state when the physical body is asleep. dreams are real experiences but due to lack of spiritual awareness people usually disregard them.
when soul starts growing spiritually, it starts becoming conscious of its travels in the inner worlds and gradually graduates from dream travel to soul travel whereby that soul can now consciously move into these heavenly and remember fully the whole experiences It had there.

First you purify your state of consciousness by doing the spiritual exercises. The basic being the singing of the HU for about 20 minutes before going to sleep. Then keep a dream journal where you record any dreams you have. This practice over time will enable you to have vivid recollections of your dreams.

The way dreams affect our life is that God communicates more easily with Soul via the dream state and also before any event occurs in the outer it makes its presence known first in the dream state, so with dreams you can predict the future, you can have insight on how to organise your life, you can have an idea of people's opinion about you etc.
