Ogun Workers To Begin Strike Today Over Unpaid Salaries, Pension by erunz(m): 12:03pm On Jan 27, 2016
The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) among others in Ogun State will embark on an indefinite strike today over government’s failure to pay their outstanding pension and deductions from their salaries.
Dupe Adewoye, the state Secretary of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), said the union was ready for the strike.

Adewoye said NCSU had earlier in the month, issued a release, where “We categorically stated that despite the unprecedented developmental projects in the state, the government is about to plunge Ogun workers into perpetual state of impoverishment.

“A situation whereby the state government is holding on to cooperative deductions for the month of May, July, October , November and December 2015, while some local governments were even left out is no longer unacceptable.”

One of the leaflets circulated to workers read thus: “Ogun Workers, ready for action. Sequel to the Labour (State and local government) demands: The contributory pension scheme be suspended. Full payment of outstanding deductions from our salaries (May, July, October, November and December, 2015) Payment of outstanding gratuity from November, 2012 to date and government not responding. All civil/public workers in the employment of Ogun State government are hereby directed to proceed on indefinite strike effective Wednesday, 27th January (today) 2016.”
