The judiciary must be strengthened and released from political interference. The interference of the executive with judicial proceedings and the ugly action of convicting and harassing the accused by the state apparatus before they are charged to court have become painfully apparent in recent times.
The courts are independent and subject only to the Constitution and the law, which they must apply impartially and without fear, favour or prejudice. No person or organ of state may interfere with the functioning of the courts. An order or decision issued by a court binds all persons to whom and organs of state to which it applies.
In recent developments, although the constitutional requirements are clear, there have been a number of cases where they have been flouted. More over, for fear of both the known and the unknown, the judges have anomalously delivered judgement in favour of the Executive arm and the ruling party. These include nullification of elections in a certain region where the opposition party hold sway, disobedience to court orders, unjustifiable absence of judges on court days, holding the accused in confinement and denying them access to legal counsel, granting outrageous bail conditions, slamming of charges bit by bit to illegally rearrest and detain suspects after meeting bail conditions, extra-judicial detention and sealing off of people's assets, intimidating and teleguiding body language to the judges so as to get their bid done.
The Nigeria Judiciary needs to stand up to the interfering and tyrannical Executive or risk being taken unserious. The Judiciary is the last hope of the common man for justice. Otherwise, why should one appear before a court which one has no confidence in? Why would one appear before an obviously compromised court? I believe these are some of the reasons why Tompolo has not appeared before a Federal High court to answer the cases slammed against him by EFCC. He has already been convicted before the court summon and there is no guarantee that he would not be extra judicially detained.
Also, there should be no double standard in the court rulings. The measure and standard used in Lagos should also be used in Rivers and Akwaibom. In this light, it is an impartial victory to democracy and judicial independence, the unanimous judgement of a 7-man panel of judges in affirming the election of River State Governor, Chief Bar. Nyesom Wike as duly elected, not minding the intimidating and tyrannical body language of the executive. The Judiciary should not give in to the despotic body language of the executive. Corruption fight or not, anything done outside the armbit of the laws and constitution of the land is barbaric and an illegality. Despotic democracy is unknown to our constitution.
Thanks to the Supreme Court for reigning supreme in upholding Gov. Wike's election. It's remaining the irrational judgement of Taraba Appeal Court Governorship election judgement. It is rather curious and a great conflict of irony that the Taraba tribunal sitting in Abuja on security grounds faulted the conduct of PDP primaries shifted to the same Abuja on security reasons.
The extent to which the executive arm go dictatorially is dependent on the resolve of the Judiciary to refuse to be teleguided or interferred with. It is better to free 1000 criminals than to convict one innocent fellow. Whatever we do today will set the precedent for other things to follow in future.

Something is wrong with our judiciary. Agreed, wike is popular, agreed that should there be a rerun in Rivers state 100 times, wike will win, agreed also that Rivers state and probably the entire south south except edo state is pro PDP. BUT BUT the Supreme court erred. Even the blind can see that election was MASSIVELY rigged in Rivers. International observers are witnesses. More than 20 people list their lives, number of voters was more than the number accredited, even PDP supporters in Rivers agree that there was massive rigging yet the Supreme Court declared Wike as governor... something is seriously wrong

Nothing is seriously wrong at the Supreme Court level. Rivers was not the only state where election was rigged. There was evidence of massive rigging in Kano, but the election was upheld. The Apex Court didn't err anything.

Did the pdp candidate in kano challenge the election? Or the courts are suppose to call the pdp candidate in kano and force him to go to court? Even with your long compistition you are still a mumu, and the upholding of rivers election is the worst travesty in the Nigerian Judiciary in a long time. That wasnt an election, it was a blood bath.

The supreme court even contradicted itself. In its ruling in October it agreed with the appeal court president for shifting the tribunal to Abuja because the violence witnessed in rivers during the elections was too much. The same supreme court sees nothing wrong with the rivers election? Let God be the supreme judge in this rivers matter. All those who say that the rivers election should stand, may their lives be like rivers election. Amen.

So you agree with the OP that the election was rigged and the Supreme Court upheld a rigged election with glaring evidences.

So what are we still debating here?

Just leave it for God. I just pray Hon. Dakuku who served Rivers State very well as a Commissioner, gets a chance to continue his good work in the state.

That the rivers elections was conducted with serious violence and terror all over as supervised by shepopotamus who left her husband side in bayelsa to spearhead the bloodshed down here is a statement of fact.

That laid down electoral rules and guidelines as stipulated by Inec weren't followed in most of the polling units is a fact

That the supreme Court chose to uphold over a million votes despite only 300000 that accredited is just something I simply can't fathom.

That the supreme Court in her wisdom chose to still uphold this fraud of an election is simply unexplainable and unimaginable but judgement accepted in good faith and life continues. I patiently wait for their reasons though.

The loss goes to rivers people who never had the opportunity to really choose who they really want as governor.

This is a full indication that the judiciary is independent under this administration as against what fools normally say when judgement don't go in their favour.

To wailers, I rejoice with u. At least u Av something to Chew on for sometime. grin
To rivers inhabitants, I will say brace up for the worse. The era of thuggery as experienced years ago in Obiakpor under wike is back. Already, we Av started seeing these things in areas like Ahoada, onelga etc.
To apc adherents, I feel ur loss. U can't always win all the time. Trust me, Wike still remain a small fish. What u still Av at ur disposal can surely subdue him.

Aggressive Peoples Congress, APC. You had to call me a mumu just for you to counter and make a point. It shows the level of your civility.
Did you follow Bayelsa election with the fewest LGA in Nigeria and see the bloodbath just in a bid to rig APC candidate into Yenogoa?

Hunter becoming hunted. Only God knows knows the kind of mayhem your group would have unleashed in PH yesterday in the name of celebration had the elections been annulled. I feel your pain bro. But be it known to you that we Rivers residents voted massively for Wike. Shame to APC for being trouble makers. Next week saturday, we will show you guys again.

Ameachi became the governor of River's State even without contesting an election through a faulty supreme court judgement and today, the same supreme court has given a judgement in favor of Ameachi's opponent.

What goes around surely do come around!

Karma is indeed a biatch.

Hypocrites, didn't APC rig in kano, katsina. You can't successfully rig in a state where you are unpopular. It is unrealistic for APC to think they can win any election east of the niger, except the candidate on th.ticket is more popular than the party itself in that area. Even rochas with all his popularity and rigging didn't win easily as he did in his first tenure. His popularity is dwindling every mini-seconds and the end of his tenure may mark the end of ApC in the east.

They wanted to rig bayelsa yet buhari refused to see and grant audience to Silva before the election! They wanted to rig bayelsa yet the same inec commissioner who conducted the April election that gave Jonathan and the pdp 98% of the votes was retained to conduct the election! See why I called you mumu? You're a mumu for life, probably born into a family of mumus.
