Transparency International just released its 2015 corruption index indicating that Nigeria came 136 out of 167 countries meaning it is the 31st most corrupt country in the world. As the chart above depicts, thought things haven’t changed much in terms of gains, it got worse under the Presidency of Goodluck Jonathan considering where it was when he took over.

For Nigeria as corruption continues to be a major factor hindering development in the country. The current government rode into power on the back of President Buhari’s desire to fight corruption. The President has lived up to his promise polarising the entire country in its wake. Some support his methods while others believe it is draconian. The President doesn’t seem to care what his critics think and has made it clear that he will not let the court get in its way of prosecuting perceived corrupt officials as is the case of the arms gate scandal.

The President still has his work cut out if he is to reduce Nigeria’s ranking further than the 121 we achieved in 2008.
