As the world observe the World Cancer Day today February 4th, its only normal and natural for most people to become apprehensive because of the increasing rate of the cancer disease every where. I remember back when I was still a little kid, cases of cancer I always hear of or read about are usually from foreign countries, majorly white-skinned countries which made me and pretty much everybody I came across with then to term the deadly disease "White man disease" because we believed that cancer can not affect the black man, but then over years in recent times, that "White man disease" is no longer limited to the foreign countries or the whites alone but have greatly spread and is still spreading with an alarming speed that most people who die everyday, a great number of them die due to one form of Cancer or the other.

Despite the fact that we all are scared of developing the deadly disease, the good thing is we all would never get cancer...that is if we have a healthy lifestyle. Thomas A. Sellers, PhD, associate director for cancer prevention and control at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa says that as many as 70% of known causes of cancers are avoidable and related to lifestyle. So in essence, basically, since we control what we eat, drink, wear, or go to, the control to our health is in our hands and we have the right to choose to prevent cancer by taking cautions on those things that prone to aid in the development of cancer cells in our body, and even if one's cancer is hereditary, living a healthy lifestyle and regular medications have been confirmed to kill cancer cells. So below are a few tips to keep you in the safety zone and improve your overall health, check them out:

Avoid Tobacco

Various kinds of cancer ( lung, throat, kidney…) have been linked to smoking, so its best to avoid tobacco altogether. No sacrifice is too much for your health. Chewing tobacco has been linked to cancer of the oral cavity and pancreas. Even if you don't use tobacco, exposure to secondhand smoke might increase your risk of lung cancer.

Maintain A Healthy Diet

Try maintaining a healthy diet and if possible its best advised for one to stay off processed and canned food. Let your diet be filled with fruits and vegetables and other foods from plant sources such as whole grains and beans. Reduce intake of high calories foods including refined sugars and fat from animal sources.

Maintain A Healthy And Fit Weight

Its a proven fact that adults who participate in any amount of physical activity gain some health benefits, so keeping fit doesn’t just keep you in great shape, it keeps your health in check too. Maintaining a healthy weight helps reduce your risk to breast, lung, kidney and colon cancer.

Take Clean Water; Plenty Daily

Drinking plenty of water and other liquids may reduce the risk of bladder cancer by diluting the concentration of cancer-causing agents in urine and helping to flush them through the bladder faster and also prevent oral and throat cancer. Ensure your water is always clean for consumption.

Reduce Meat Intake

I know there are a lot of people who just can not do without including meat in their every meal. even I myself find it hard to eat a meal without any type of meat in it, but the, its a very bad lifestyle that greatly affect the health in more than one way. A report from the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the cancer agency of the World Health Organization, concluded that eating large amounts of processed meat can slightly increase the risk of certain types of cancer. So, it best we cut down on our meat intake and if possible stop totally.

Drink More Caffeinated Coffee Daily

Java lovers who drank 5 or more cups of caffeinated coffee a day had a 40% decreased risk of brain cancer, compared with people who drank the least, in a 2010 British study. A 5-cup-a-day coffee habit reduces risks of oral and throat cancer almost as much. Researchers credit the caffeine: Decaf had no comparable effect. But coffee was a more potent protector against these cancers than tea, which the British researchers said also offered protection against brain cancer.

Quit making Long Calls With Phone Glued To The Ear

Its best advised for one to use cell phone only for short calls or texts, or better still use a hands-free device that keeps the phone and the radio frequency energy that emit from the phone away from your head. According to the Cancer Panel report, evidence that cell phones increase brain cancer risk is "neither consistent nor conclusive, But a number of review studies suggest there's a link. So like the old saying, Prevention is better than cure.

Protect Yourself From The Sun

Skin cancer is one of the most common kinds of cancer and one of the most preventable too. According to research, its best to stay out of the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the sun's rays are strongest. When you're outdoors, stay in the shade as much as possible. Sunglasses and a broad-brimmed hat help too. Try to cover the skin as much as possible and opt for bright or dark colors, which reflect more ultraviolet radiation than pastels or bleached cotton.

Take More Calcium

Milk is one drink that boast of high content of calcium, so its advisable for one to include milk (plenty of it) in one's daily diet as it help protect you from colon cancer.

Regular Medical Check Up

Its best to always get regular medical check-ups from time to time and never ignore any form of pain in any area of the body.
