Staff Fraud, Eco Bank Hands 3 To Police For Prosecution by qtx(m): 1:43pm On Feb 05, 2016
Eco Bank of Nigeria has demonstrated her intolerance stance for staff fraud by handing over 3 staff to the Nigerian police for prosecution.

The said staff, Oluwatoyin Adetunji, Oluwatosin Obademi, and Olushola Ogunshina are alleged to have committed financial fraud worth N2.8M at the Iyana-Ipaja branch of the Eco bank in July 10-14, 2015.

According to the report, the staff siphoned that whooping sum from customer’s accounts through forged signatures.

You reading this article will agree with me that the number one value any bank will attract and keep customers is the confidence that your money will be safe with them.

It is alarming to know the level of fraud perpetuated by most banks staffers across the country.

The alleged crime in Eco Bank was uncovered by the Quality Assurance Unit of the bank during weekly reconciliation exercise.

The affected staff have already been charged at the Tinubu Magistrate situated at the Lagos Island on 3 count charge of forgery, conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Nurudeen Thomas, revealed to the court how the accused persons committed the alleged fraud stating that Mr. Adetunji and Mr. Obademi were cashiers, while Mr. Ogunshina was an Information Technology personnel in the bank.

The Police were invited by the bank to effect the arrest when the fraud case was discovered.

Inspector Thomas noted that Mr. Ogunshina and Mr. Obademi confessed to the crime claiming they were approached by Mr. Adetunji for the deal with a promise to gratify them with the sum of N350,000 each.

Mr. Thomas explained that the offences contravened Sections 285, 361 and 409 of the Criminal Code of Lagos State, 2011.

K. B. Ayeye, the Chief Magistrate, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum while adjourning the case to 22nd February for further a hearing.

Eco Bank began operation in 1986 operating as universal bank.

Their services then were wholesale, corporate, retails, investment and transaction banking services to the Nigerian Business community.

Within the fourth quarter of 2011, Eco Bank acquired 100 percent share of Oceanic bank due to recapitalization exercise by the apex bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN.

Eco Bank prides herself as the Pan African bank with several branches in most African countries extending to other continents of the world.

The act of exposing staff fraud in the bank is a welcome development which will build more customer confidence in the bank and send signal to other staff with questionable intents to stay off.
