I hope everyone (especially the yorubas) is beginning to see how the north is systematically stealing and also looking for oil...If oil was found in the north, they would have separated from Nigeria a long time ago...If they had found oil, they would have been shoutin that allah has blessed them and they are not supposed to share the oil money with infidels....God will never allow oil to be found in the north...

Dude, you don't go about asking people silly questions. If you are a geoscientist you will understand that the exploration of oil in that area is a waste of precious unavailable fund.

Regardless of the presence of oil in the Chad location of the basin, which is filled with basement rocks, the sediment which would have been oil bearing have been cooked beyond recognition. Hence, even if there were traces of oil at any time, it would have been fried by now. The best they can get in that area may be bitumen. Worse case marble and the likes.

A lot of scenario could have played before or after any trace of hydrocarbon was formed. Even a major non sealing fault in that region will send all our HC to gods if there was ever any.


If you cannot come up with reasonable explanations, don't ask stupid questions.

True. Nonetheless, I won't advice anyone to do a frontier exploration with current downturn of events in the industry. A wiser man will put those monies in something more sustainable. You know, that money is going down the drain right?

We have areas in the southwest with plethora of pegmatite which should lead us to mineral deposits, Kogi is crazily blessed. If oil isn't selling, go into mining for other minerals, gold, aquamarine, sapphire etc. Or face agriculture fair and square.

Sandstones are different in term of permeability nd years of formation, some sedimentary rocks are even atop Basement complex rock. pleistocene Gombe sandstone is different from cenomanian Bima sandstone. The problem of Chad Basin of Nigeria is pleistocene Gombe sandstone that's lacking

that's not true brother go back to your books northern Nigeria is a tectonic area which is associated with high temperature and crude oil and high temperature do not exist together, secondly there is oil in the Chad basin but it is a half garben where the sloppy side containing the crude accumulation is deep into Chad and not in our reach so it is a waste of resources. Benue trough may contain oil but it is contained in and. Older aged layer where little technology is available to drill to that dept... so the money should be used for cattle rearing and farming...

God has a way of balancing everything as he desires for the betterment of the humans, I m a northerner all my life has been in the north unless 1yr nysc in Benin city in 2009, if there was oil in the north, the north would have been more bleeped up as it is today coz most of us are very lazy..... and I still believe south would have also develop more without this oil of a thing, Nigerians will have been more creative in general.

It's $3B my sis. They should also concentrate in other states. However, I believe they will find oil one day in the north. Oil hv been found in the desert. That resources is everywhere in Nigeria

Lol...I just dey watch the man in 3D...chad basin is the largest inter-cratonic basin...in which the south part of the basin has oil prospect in which exploration as been taking placen while we in Nigeria shares the Northern part of the Basin, in which there is a prospect too, from Seismic analysis of this basin, we can produce oil on commercial basis by conventional and unconventional drilling methods.
