I have been made to believe that IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO GET GENUINE CUSTOMS PAPERS FROM COTONOU except for cars shipped through Lagos ports.

If this is true, that means if I opt for a cotonou imported car, I run the risk of it being seized if I travel with it within the first year of purchase.

you ve been made to believe first by who? You can at the same time get into wrong hands in Lagos port and they will run fake papers for you. So dont ve in mind u can't run original papers from cotonou just pay the fee charged and you dont ve problem with it thats all.
