This quote says a lot.

How does this government begin to even convince us that it saved the nation such exorbitant amount when her 2016 budget is replete with errors, duplications and frauds so massive that reading through the items analysed by various media made one tremble in shame at the outright lack of attentiveness that was invested into its preparations? How can you be so grossly incompetent in one aspect and then claim you are opposite in another?
For a President who embodied the image of military discipline and asceticism, this budget deconstructs and demystifies him. From the way the budget was presented and withdrawn amidst lies and denials, a lot has been going wrong suggesting poor administrative capability.
...
We do not need the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Muhammed, to come up with another excuse to cover sheer incompetence.

You don't spin lies to sound as the truth in your mind, you tell the truth as it is.

Wow! This is spot on op. I wish I could write like this. You said the economy is broke, you want to raise money inwardy, hence you increase tax, increase electricity tarrif, started deduction of postal whatever from all bank deposit, thereby making life hader for the average Nigerian. Yet you presented a budget to spend 215mill naira on kitchen utensils, 515mill naair to maintain cars in you convoy. Cars that's not driven outside Abuja. The amount of money to be used to buy books for the vice president office is about 4 million naira, whereas the amount to buy books for 11 out of 22 federal polytechnics is about 3milion naira.

As a president, you can't cut these things off?? U want to spend 315 million naira to build a VIP wing in Aso Rock clinic! A clinic that when u are sick, you will not go to be treated. Instead you will be flown abroad. It's just funny how things are in this country. Dunno why one person can't just come up and be our Nelson Mandela, to give selfless service and better the lots of Nigerians.

Well am not surprised anyway. If you tell lies to attain power, you will need more lies to keep the power.

What worries me the most with this budget is this: it is the largest Budget in the history of Nigeria, 6T NGN estimate. Yet, all the ministries and organs of government are asking for an increase in their allocations. What then stimulated this increase?

Once again. Nigerians did not vote him to tell them who they are, truthfully or lie to them. They put him there 'to do' and not 'to say'. That is the yardstick they choose to measure him now. Promised change. Their pastors and Imams do that heads-up stuff week in, week out.

You are joking right? I presume when you say "to do", you actually mean to make things better? How do you change things around without first accepting and talking about how bad things are and how did it get that way? To know where you are going, you need to know where you are coming from. Nigerians don't seem to understand that corruption is really that bad in the country. If a man has a serious case of mouth odour because of his horrible personal hygiene regimen and you try to change that aspect of him, how far do you think you'll get if he thinks he doesn't have a problem and you're just over exaggerating the situation?

I took sometime to read this piece and some points the writer highlighted. However, the writer failed to give us empirical facts to counter issues she raised. For example, if she says, that TSA amount is not up to N2.2 trillion, so what is the actual figure? Until you tell nigeria the actual figure and your source, then in my own opinion I she have committed thesame crime she accused the Govt of doing. Secondly, I am left with no choice to say she has been paid to write this nonsense.
Haba bro, is this ur honest conclusion? If it is u need a deliverance session with pastor TB Joshua o, seriously speaking. And dnt even call me a wailer.

Anybody that finish reading this article and keep on shouting wailing wailers need serious help, we need to tell ourselves the truth buhari is not getting it right and the sooner we let him know the better. This budget brouhaha can only mean two things, it is either buhari is extremely corrupt or he is not in charge and both scenario is not good for us the citizens.

The money spent by your parents to educate you was very well spent. Well done for a very on point post.

I simply can't understand the mindset of some Nigerians. How bad do things need to get before they will accept that Buhari is getting things VERY wrong. According to them all of the below are not Buhari's fault.

Over 5 months to appoint ministers. Not Buhari's fault.
Refusal to obey court judgements. Not Buharis fault
Not one presidential visit to victims of BH since this govt came to power. Not Buhari's fault
Attempted MASSIVE corruption in the 2016 Budget. Not Buhari's fault.
After 8 months no policy framework for the economic downturn. Not Buhari's fault.

So please tell us, what exactly is Buhari's responsibility as President??

And please it's time to drop the tired argument of 'Was GEJ any better...blah blah' GEJ LOST THE ELECTION. BUHARI IS THE PRESIDENT NOW AND THE BUCK STOPS WITH HIM. THAT'S HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS.

On a very neutral ground, if one says this govt is failing, he is not far from the truth. They channel more efforts into telling lies to gullible Nigerians than confronting the challenges. "Great leaders are not made in goodtimes"

Wonderful article!! no bias at all!!

Be objective I was a strong Buhari supporter. The writer compared the claimed success on a complex TSA to a simple process of preparing a budget. If they can't prepare a simple budget, how could they have saved such amount? Does the budget look prudent? No. They are not interested in saving so the TSA claim is likely false. It is all porn propaganda.

Well written article, President Buhari has a lot to explain to Nigerians (especially we his diehard supporters) on this Budget sham. He should sack the Minister for Budget and National Planning along with other Ministers who sent in a poorly repaired and corrupt Budget allocation asap. This set of cabinet members may end up making Jonathan corrupt cabinet members look like Saint.. Which way Nigeria? Who is that competent, selfless, man of integrity who can rescue this nation? How can a nation be so blessed with both mineral and human resources but yet so poor economically? How did we get it this wrong, where a few individuals have stolen and keep on stealing the country dry? If President Buhari with his much acclaimed integrity cannot fix at least 30% of all the problems in Nigeria (especially corruption), then i may just give up on this Country ever becoming great. Nigeria polithiefcians (PDP/APC/APGA e.t.c ) are just too heartless and self-centered, they are our own natural disasters.....

A PRESIDENT AND HIS EXEMPLARY LEADERSHIP

There is so much grim news coming out of Nigeria everyday, but when you look closely, you will find bits and pieces of progress here and there that bring good cheer and nourish the roots of hope:

One, for the first time in recent memory a sitting elected President of Nigeria formally and properly handed over to his Vice-President before proceeding on vacation....without controversy. I guess this lays to rest the contrived logic of old that "the Nigerian President can rule from anywhere he is in the world, including planet Mars."

Two, I read today that as at January this year, Nigeria has saved 2.2 trillion Naira through the effective implementation of the TSA alone. President Buhari assures citizens that this sum is sufficient to fund the 2016 budget deficits. Meanwhile more savings are still expected as we go forward. And we have not even added recoveries from 'our common-YAM Thieves' and Abacha funds returns.

Three, The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) disclosed that Nigeria has for the first time in the history of her electricity generation profile, generated about 5,074 megawatts (MW) of electricity. The nation is also on target to add an additional 2000 megawatts by December!

And four, we also learnt today that Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria are the real owners of majority of the so called Bureau de-change (BDC) in Nigeria. This explains why Bureau de-change owners will buy a dollar for N190 from the CBN and then sell to ordinary Nigerians at N305 to a dollar. Well, you guessed right, this discovery further explains why President Buhari directed the CBN governor to stop selling dollars to BDC's. A potent shot in the arm of our economy.

There are those who will have us give up in the false believe that nothing good is happening in Nigeria particularly under this government. Every time I hear or read such comments, I am reminded of two basic facts of life: One, that opinions are free and cheap but facts are 'sacred' and 'respected'. And two, that life is very difficult for the blind, so we must learn to be sympathetic to them that suffer such great an affliction.

The truth is that, slowly but surely, Nigeria is making progress and taking baby steps forward into the hallowed arena of civilization and development. The pains are there. The doubts persist. The disappointments and betrayals of many decades gone by stubbornly linger. But we must dare to dream again. Hope again. Believe again, particularly when we see the convincingly bold and beautiful steps of integrity of a leader who is truly accountable to us, citizens.

The good news might be coming in bits and pieces now rather than in droves and floods. But given what this country has gone through in its recent history, we ought simply to be thankful that there is any good news at all.

The message is that, a New Nigeria is Possible. Believe! CD
