This story needs to be verified, first and foremost the luggage scanners are inside the airport not in the aircraft. At the planes entrance security agents use body scanners to check if the passenger is carrying any weapon. Each luggage is also identified by the passengers before they are loaded in the plane.

Having said that, I don't see how the air hostess who has no business in the airport checking in point could have seen that the bag was not scanned. Also if this story is anything to go by FAAN and the airline ought to make a categorical statement on the issue.

The OP must be aware that if this story is false he can and will be sued for giving DANA airline an image of not doing due diligence in checkin procedures.

This bullshit on front page?

Nairaland is now a mess

Almost 48 hours after the incident and all we have is a 3rd hand account of the incident. How did your bloodclat brother see the guns from his seat and how dafuq did the air hostess see that the man's bag didnt go through the security scanner?

You clowns ask for 'sauce' for stories where its not relevant yet post this completely unverified balderdash
Re: Dana Airline Hostess Avert Air-Hijack by emi14: 8:00am On Feb 12, 2016
Pappilo I hail ooooo. Accurate logistical analysis. Thumb up. The cabin crew can't be at security checkpoints to identify which bag pass through nor our seated brother sighting loaded ammunitions from his economy low class Dana seat.

As someone already asked, how did the Air-hostess of all people know that the hand luggage did not pass through the Scanner? Assuming some other person in a position to know gives a tip-off, it certainly won't be to an Air-hostess.
It's good to read all the other comments before commenting. A commentator above just explained WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED as published in Vanguard of February 10: these were security men of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar who were involved in a road accident earlier and was being flown to Abuja for treatment, hence the guy in bandages. Security Aides /bodyguards carry weapons to the plane all the time subject to proper documentation but in this instance, the bullets for the weapons were not properly documented. The Security men were asked to go to FAAN & document it properly; they did so and left with the flight to Abuja. No big drama there

Sharing Experience...‎
(courtesy of a friend and brother, Dayo Alabi)

This happened today, February 9, 2016...and I consider this experience worthy of share, if not for anything, but to sensitize and galvanize each and everyone of us to take vigilance and caution as serious business...

I let my brother Dayo Alabi give his narratives:

"Help me thank God that the Dana Plane I boarded to Abuja landed safely in Abuja instead of the "breaking news" that would probably have announced that "Dana plane with xyz passangers en-route Abuja hijacked and flown to abc country"!‎

We boarded the plane scheduled to take off at 1.23pm.

However,  one of the air-hostesses became suspicious of one of the passengers who was earlier brought into the plane in a wheelchair with left hand bandaged from shoulder to the fingers; same with his left leg.

The hostess's suspicion arose from the discovery that the man's hand luggage was not passed thru the security screening machines.

To cut a long story short, the Airport Security Team was invited and the bag opened. It was reported that four fully loaded guns were in the bag!

The "sick/injured" man  insisted he could not stand/walk. A wheelchair was brought in by the security team to take him out.  An accomplice was also off-loaded from the plane.

The pilot then apologized profusely for the 37mins delay "due to security breach" saying we should all be thankful as "it is better to be delayed than to be sorry". He then went on rendering beautiful songs (not religious songs anyway) from taxing to take-off to the delight of passangers who were all praising God‎..."

ps:

I thought to share because that Dana Air-Hostess, in saner climes, and to encourage diligence in others, would be on a future honours' list of an appreciative country.

I do hope fervently that she, like Olajumoke Orisaguna, - the now famous bread-hawker ‎shot to limelight by Sister T. Y. Bello's un-quiet action, - will eventually be recognized by the authorities in Nigeria.‎

I also hope that my brother Dayo Alabi, unlike many that were on that plane, but chose to keep 'mute' or indifferent to 'shout-out' on their  horrible encounter, will, in the fulness of time also get recognition for helping to bring this episode to public disclosures.

Most important, I hope this narrative nudges us all to be active participants at vigilance, caution and paying attention to details in matters of public safety and well-being.

A word, as thee saying goes,  is enough for the discerning...

Nigerians can be funny! So because weapons were stashed in a suitcase means the plane would have been hijacked? What if they just wanted to ferry the weapons across to their destination? The way people jump into conclusions

Hope the man and the people that bypass his luggage have arrested

I'm surprised this flight took off after only 37mins.

This our security agencies self.

If the plan was to hijack the plane, then I'm sure the man would not use 4 guns all by himself.

This leads me to believe he must have associates to whom he would distribute the guns.

In that case, the entire passengers ought to have been detained for further security checks until these associates are smoked out.

I suspect though that this may not be the exact account, with the 4 fully loaded guns and all. Were they rifles, semi-automatics, side arms etc and how did they know they were fully loaded?

Again all the airports Dana operates have fully functioning scanners, including the skeletal PHC Omagwa airport. How 4 "guns" could have passed through those checks is a bit worrisome. Those guys can sniff out 25ml perfume, e come be "4 fully loaded guns".

And our hero of the day, God bless her soul and her generations to come. Whatever made her suspicious, I don't know but it's unlikely it's the fact the bag wasn't checked in. Everyone has a hand luggage so that would be like suspecting everyone.

After much much, thank God for averting the "hijack" and any crisis that would have followed. Thank God for OP's brother's life.

I'm taking same Dana today. God please grant us safe journey. It took some time for friends to convince me to take Dana after their last mishap. But I did and I agree with my friends. They deliver very good service and at very competitive rates.

Dana Airline yesterday dispelled the rumour making the round of an attempted bomb attack on one of its aircraft at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos. Communication Manager of Dana Airline, Mr. Kingsley Ezenwa who spoke to Vanguard said that the rumour making the round that some passengers came on-board its aircraft en-route Lagos to Abuja with guns and other ammunition with intention of bombing the aircraft was not true. Mr. Ezenwa pointed out that the passengers in question were the security aides of Former Vice President Abubakar Atiku stressing that they were four in number and one of them came with some bullets which made the security officials of the airline to stop them from boarding the aircraft.
