Nigeria Was Almost A 'Pariah State' Before Buhari – Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information, Mr Lai Mohammed, claimed on Wednesday that Nigeria was almost a ‘pariah state’ before President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office in May 2015.

Mr Mohammed made the statement while addressing reporters after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

“Almost A Pariah State”

The Minister claimed that no investors and investment came into Nigeria during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s regime until the present administration took over power.

He said: “The personal presence of Mr President in many of this fora is so important and crucial because before now we were almost a pariah state and the two things that have been driving investment away from the country have simply been terrorism and corruption.

“One thing that nobody can fault this President on is his determination and sense of purpose in fighting this twin-evils”.

After taking over power in May, President Buhari has made several trips which the administration said were aimed at strengthening ties and gaining the goodwill of the nations visited.

At the meeting of the Council, presided over by the President and held in the council chambers in Abuja, members assessed President Buhari’s foreign trips, describing them as good for the image of Nigeria.
