As a Yoruba person, what do you think is the reason why people speak Yoruba to their family and friends, and type English while sending text, chatting, updating status? do you think something needs to be done about that?

Who yoruba language don hep?
Besides the semi-sensible and sometimes fallacious proverbs.. Whats left is voodoo, invocations and incantations.
If the African people and its language leave dark ages and ideologies, maybe it will become relevant in future.

People do text in Yoruba, just that it isn't as common as English text.
Because Yoruba language is not official in Nigeria, people see no need of making "formal" communications in it.
If it were to be Official, the opposite would have been the case.... Like you rightly said, Most people speak the language well but do not text in it.
In places like Tanzania where Swahili is official, people do almost everything in Swahili including texting.

Writing in Yoruba is fun but writing in English can't be helped - it makes texting easier.
