Osun State Government has technically sacked the doctors in its employ who have been on strike since September 28th 2015.

The Chairman, Special Committee on Health, Dr. Simon Afolayan, announced at a press conference in Osogbo on Friday that the state considered that the striking doctors had resigned their appointments.

He explained that the doctors had not been sacked because no letter of sack was issued to any of them but they ( striking doctors) were deemed to resign their appointments because of their refusal to work for more than six months.
According to him, the doctors started their strike on April 2, 2015.

However, members of the Osun State Association of Medical and Dental Officers under the Hospitals Management Board and Association of Resident Doctors at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo embarked on an indefinite strike on September 28, 2015 because of payment of half salaries and poor condition of service.
Afolayan said, ” Doctors are parts of the civil service and by the civil service rule you cannot abandon your duty post for six months without reason and not face the consequences. If you do so, it is deemed that you have resigned your appointment. This rule has taken effect.”

Afolayan stated that those who still wanted to work with the government had been given a fresh opportunity.
He said the state could not afford to pay the doctors’ salaries in full because of the financial crisis facing the state and the nation.
According to him, out of about 40,000 workforce in the state civil service, doctors working with the Osun State Hospitals Management Board are less were less than 100.

He described the demands of the doctors as impossible, saying there would be anarchy in the state if the government decided to pay full salaries to doctors and continue to pay other civil servants half salaries.
He said the state doctors did not sack any of the doctors but the doctors had decided to discontinue rendering their services by abandoning their duties for over six months.

It will be recalled that Governor Rauf Aregbesola had in January threatened to implement the civil service rule against the doctors.
The state government, after this, advertised the positions of the doctors and Afolayan stated that some doctors had applied for the vacant positions.

When properly check you will discover that vast majority of this so called doctors are owner of chemist store, patients pharmacy store and private hospital where they illegally and fraudulently divert Osun state government resources and facilities which meant to be use in public hospital.
They don't have any ground justifiable to embarked on this wicked strike. Doctors like the Nigeria security operative are rendering essential service to the public and they sworn an oat to this effect.
Resignation or sack is not just enough, the government should hold them responsible for all lives loss while the strike tarry. selfish doctors they place money above human lives.
let their certificate be revoke!

I believe these Doctors paid school fees, have dependants and families to cater for. If this is right, then there will soon be a massive brain drain in Osun State. Let them go and seek greener pastures elsewhere.

Ògbéni pigheadedness has no rival. He is not fit to be a leader of the people. I've been following this case.

Government half the doctors salary without prior agreement on such. Salary is a constitutional issue and any change to that should be by agreement. The government position was that other workers too are being paid half salary after MOU entered with NLC. The NMA then said they are not part of NLC and should have been called too.

After much talks about the deplorable economy condition of the state, the doctors agreed to be collecting half payment now and have the arrears when the economy of the state improves. They then said government should enter into written or verbal agreement with them on that position which government declined. If the government had agreed to pay the backlog of arrears whenever the economy improves that strike should have been called off months ago.

It's a very simple issue which was only complicated by the government.

There is no law in the land that says a doctor can not run a private hospital at his/her free time. It is a big lie and a dangerous propaganda to say doctors who own private hospitals divert government resources for their private use. What has been happening is other way round where the doctors are bringing down their personal equipment to treat the patients. I know of a big hospital where I was told the furnitures in doctors resting room were brought down by a doctor when they have nowhere to sit.

Ògbéni has run every sector aground, education , health, agriculture, water cooperation etc. Osun is presently in shambles. The governor is a black sheep among the APC governors. I don't know why he has not been impeached already.

If you believe they are providing essential services, is it not equally sensible that their salary should also be prioritised? Imagine government starts paying police, army half salary and tell them to go and face armed robbers, BH etc.

Do you really understand why they have been on strike? I bet you didn't know. Seek information bros.
