Senator representing Bayelsa East senatorial district at the National Assembly, Ben Murray-Bruce had a dinner to celebrate his 60th birthday on Friday and had friends from various segments of the society in attendance.

One of the dignitaries at the event was former Anambra state Governor Peter Obi who was in office between March 2006 and March 2014 before going on to be appointed as chairman of the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

 

Obi was Anambra governor when Nigeria’s first indigenous vehicle manufacturing company, Innoson began production in Nnewi, a popular town in Anambra state, in 2010. As governor, Obi was reputed to be a great supporter of the Innoson brand and approved significant purchase of Innoson vehicles by government agencies and for the state transport services.

Last night, Senator Murray-Bruce on social media site, Twitter stated that the former Anambra governor who he described as a great Nigerian, mentioned to him that he bought 1000 Innoson vehicles while in office.

Murray-Bruce founded the Silverbird Group of Companies which he grew into a multi-billion naira business spanning television, radio, theatre, fashion, pageants and other segments of the entertainment industry, before joining politics a few years ago.

In 2015, Murray-Bruce, as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate won the Bayelsa East senatorial district election. He has for a while been in the forefront of a #BuyNaijaToGrowTheNaira campaign which seeks to improve Nigeria’s balance of trade and boost the recovery of the Naira through patronage of locally manufactured goods.
