The editor of Global Post newspaper, Mr. Gideon Imoh Ekere through his lawyer Chief Victor Iyanam has filed an originating summons at the State High Court challenging the decision of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel to interfere in his constitutional duty of informing and educating the society through publication of news articles in its newspaper.

Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel through the State Commissioner of Police recently filed a case against Mr. Gideon Ekere in the State Magistrate’s Court with charge No. MU/582C/2015 on a story titled “Udom Emmanuel in deadly sex scandal” with a rider “Someone’s wife raped to death; bribes husband with N200m to keep quiet.” According to the governor, the said story is contrary to section 383(1)(b) and punishable under section 384 of criminal code, cap. 38 Vol. II laws of Akwa Ibom State.

It could be recalled that few weeks after Udom Gabriel Emmanuel assumed duty as the state chief executive of the state, he embarked on a multi-billion mansion project at his home town in Onna local Government area.
