Would you want a European Super League? What 20 teams would you have and how would it work?
Re: Would You Want A European Super League? by holymayor5(m): 9:01am On Mar 02, 2016
It would be an interesting prospect IF it is truly
financially viable and doesn't pose a threat to the other leagues.
Assuming a scenario in which a European Super
League started next season, it would look similar
to this:
Barcelona
Real Madrid
Atletico Madrid
Valencia
Chelsea
Arsenal
Manchester United
Manchester City
Bayern Munich
Wolfsburg
Borussia Monchengladbach
Bayer Leverkusen
Juventus
Roma
Benfica
Porto
PSG
Lyon
Zenit
Ajax
The most interesting prospect about a potential
Super League is the effect it would have on the
domestic leagues. If the Super League existed, the following scenarios and questions would follow:
La Liga would no longer be a "two/three horse
race". Without the big three, how open would La
Liga be? Would another team become dominant?
Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, and
Manchester United would no longer compete in
the Premier League. Would Liverpool finally break their league drought? What about the race for the Champions League/Europa League?
The Bundesliga would become crazily competitive in the immediate seasons after the formation of the Super League. What would be the limit on this? Could Schalke achieve their long desired Bundesliga title? Would the league competition stabilize or would another club become the new top dog?
Without PSG and Lyon, how much more
unpredictable would Ligue 1 become? Would
Monaco dominate? What about the race for
Champions League/Europa League?
Serie A without Juventus and Roma would open
up opportunities for Napoli, Lazio, and Fiorentina.
Would it be easy for the Milan clubs to return to
dominance with a Super League?
With practically all of the successful Champions
League teams playing in the Super League, what
would the Champions League be like? Who would gain and who would suffer? One potential Super League model includes the idea that the four semi-finalists of the Champions League are
"promoted" into the next Super League season to replace the bottom four Super League teams,
which are "relegated" into their domestic leagues and given a parachute into the group stage of the next season of the Champions League. Would this model be successful? And would the Europa League maintain it's condition if the Super League existed?
All of these are hypothetical of course, but there's some interesting ideas and potential as a result of this. The biggest concern (and the one reason I'm on the fence about a European Super League) is the disparity between big and small clubs as a result of this. If it did happen, they would have to be sensible with the TV rights and make sure they don't kill off the domestic leagues, keep the integrity of the lower tiers, and ensure that the Champions League and/or Europa League continued as a stable tournament without all of the big names playing.

UEFA should beta buy into dis idea nd run it demselves instead of letting dah American own it. The Champion League would b dead if d Super League materializes cuz all d european giants are ready 2 scrab d Champions League 4 d Super League. Cuz d Super League would bring extra extra money 2 d table via TV rights, Sponsorship deal, Fans e.t.c
Even thou it's gonna kill d local leagues, i say it's a bargain 4 d big teams. So UEFA should beta do somtin o, mayb lyk increase d numba of teams in the Champions to like 48"Group A-L, 4teams per group" nd increase d price money big time. If not, dis muhfuckaz gon pot.
