Please could someone kindly explain what it means if a vehicle is:

- Two wheel drive

Thanks.

You will still need Google though. But basically two wheel drive configuration is for front wheel drive or rear wheel drive where only either the two wheels are spinning (power is only pushed to those sets) the fronts or the back.

Front wheel drive: only the two front wheels are spinning (power is only available there)

Rear wheel drive: Only the two back wheels are spinning (power is only available to the back tires)

four wheel drive (4WD)/All wheel drive (AWD): both are basically the same but on a pro level they can be different in the sense that 4 wheel drive can generally mean all the four wheels are spinning continously i.e power is shared ina 50-50 ratio to both.

All wheel drive basically is used differently by all manufacturers, in some only the front or the rear are spinning but when the main spinning wheel gets stucked, then power is pushed to the remaining two to get the car out.

I am a learner in this but this topic is a very interesting one to follow online and you will learn a lot from it if you take time to follow. In my secondary school days, a land cruiser was stucked in sand with only one tire free, and with its shear size, that tire got it out safely, same could not be said for a Honda accord babyboy that got trapped in same sand.

Thanks for your vivid explanation. Makes a lot of sense
