OVERCOMING TEMPTATION IN A
DELICATE MOMENT.
(Matthew 4:1-11)
Every believers must have this in mind that we
are in a delicate time, this is the most terrible
time that every child of God must be watchful.
This is the time that every child of God must be
aware of Devil's temptation of amusement , for if
the devil could tempt our Lord Jesus Christ, how
much more are we that are His followers.
Many believer today are victim of the temptation
of the Devil, they do not know how to come out,
because they are already addicted to that
particular sin that devil lure them into it.
Many do not understand the difference between
temptation and trials, some thought both of them
come from God, after falling into temptation they
put the blame on God. They would say : God why
do you allow me to fall, why do you allow me to
sin, why do you allow me to fornicate, why do you
allow me to masturbate , why do you allow me to
fight, why do you allow me to do this or do that.
Just like Adam, God asked why do you eat this
fruit, have I not told you not to touch it neither to
eat it, then he replied “God, it is the woman that
you gave me”
HE FIRST PUT THE BLAME ON GOD “”Indirectly
why do you give me this woman
HE PUT THE BLAME ON THE WOMAN “” if you
were not with me, I wouldn't have fallen””
Blaming God or any body does not change the
fact that you have sinned, that you have defiled
yourself, that you have polluted yourself, that you
have disappointed God” what change the fact is
when you discovered yourself and with Godly
sorrow in your heart weep and cry for Repentance,
but understand that no amount of tears can bring
repentance if it does not come from the heart, if
doesn't have good source or motive.
Two thing I want to bring to your notice was that
:
1 . THE TEMPTER CAME WHEN JESUS WAS
HUNGRY: devil knew Jesus was hungry then he
first come through that means to tempt the Lord.
Likewise Devil would never tempt you with a
particular sin, when he do not see the little
quantity of the love, desire of that particular sin
in your heart. “YOU CANNOT TEMPT DOG WITH
DOG MEAT, BUT HE WILL FALL WHEN TEMPTED
WITH COW MEAT”
2 . THE TEMPTER CAME WHEN JESUS WAS JUST
ENDUED WITH POWER : Many christian after
leaving a place of prayer, and they are tempt with
anger from their family, husband, wife, children,
brothers, sisters or friends they are provoked and
they instantly lost the blessings of God or what
God just ENDUED upon them, if you have
experience this before you would understand what
I am saying, but if you haven't I pray you will
never experience it.
Temptation Always come in this proportion
“”Agree with me to Rebel against God” because
every temptation is a question, and you yielding
to that temptation, it indirectly means “Yes I
Agree” but you have to understand that to be
tempted is not a sin but to fall into temptation is
a sin. But every christian need to recognize the
role of scripture in overcoming temptation “ thy
word have I hide in my heart that I might not sin
against you. Psalms 119:11.
The only answer to every temptation is
“resisting,rebuking or running “
Where does temptation come from :
1 . From our own lusts . James 1:13-14
2 . They are also inspired by the devil . Genesis
3:1-6,3 “The serpent inspired me and I did eat”
HOW TO OVERCOME TEMPTATION
1 . Avoid the pathway to temptation. Mat 6:13a :
lead us not into temptation.
Proverb 4:14 Enter not into the path of the
wicked.
As you are praying Lord lead me not into
temptation, you also must not go to where you
will be lead into temptation.
2 . Beware of those who would entice you .
Psalms 1:1-2
3 . Keep your eyes on Jesus. Heb 11:27
4 . Pray and ask the Lord to help you. Psalms
17:5
5 . Resist the devil . Eph 4:27, James 4:7
6 . Be willing to give up your own desire out of
love for Jesus. Gal 5:16
7 . Exercise will power and determined not to
yield to temptation . Rom 6:13, 2 Tim 2:22
8 . Fear the Lord and be afraid to disobey him.
Prov 14:27
9 . Beware lusting after shallow and deceitful
beauty. Prov 6:25
10 . Believe in the badness of sin. Psalms
119:104.
Don't be deceived when the devil tries to portray
sin as something desirable and attractive, but you
need to come to a place where you love God so
much , that you would rather die than to
deliberately sin and grieved Him”
11 . Cling to the word of God . Rev 3:10.
12 . Don't love money. 1 Tim 6:9
13 . Overcoming evil with good.
You can't overcome sin with sin. Some because
they do not want to commit fornication then they
commit masturbation which is sexual immorality
with demons.
Some because many men had betrayed them,
they thought the best way to be free is to
committing lesbianism. Some because fellow
believers maltreat them, they thought if they go
back to the world to meet the old sinful friends
they would be okay, that is not true, you can't
overcome sin with sin.
Conclusion: SIN WILL TAKE YOU FURTHER THAN
YOU WANT TO GO, KEEP YOU LONGER THAN YOU
WANT TO STAY, AND COST YOU MORE THAN
YOU WANT TO
