Stock Market Rally Continues, Gain 0.27% by tapread: 5:23am On Mar 08, 2016

The Nigerian stock market has continued on its positive trade to open for the week as the market capitalisation which opened at N8.882 trillion, increased by N24 billion to close at N8.906 trillion.

Similarly, the All-Share Index appreciated by 70.84 points or 0.27 per cent to close at 25,890.94 from the 25,820.10 achieved on Friday, further moderating Year-To-Date (YTD) loss to 9.6 per cent.

Market analyst said that the sustained optimism in the bourse was on account of positive sentiments toward banking stocks.

Reviewing sectoral indices showed that the Insurance Index went up 0.9 per cent to top sector performance while the oil & gas and banking indices trailed up by 0.5 per cent each, while Consumer Goods Index ended trading flat. Also, market breadth closed positive with 20 gainers and 12 laggards.

Tiger Brand recorded the highest price gain of 9.88 per cent to close at N1.89 per share. Sterling Bank gained 7.36 per cent to close at N1.75 while International Breweries appreciated by 4.96 per cent to close at N19.05 per share. Mansard Insurance went up by 4.90 per cent to close at N2.14 while Oando appreciated by 4.87 per cent to close at N3.66 per share.

On the other hand, Union Dicon led the losers’ chart by 4.98 per cent to close at N11.25 per share. Vitafoam shed 4.82 per cent to close at N4.15 while Ikeja Hotel declined by 4.76 per cent to close at N2.60 per share. Learn Africa depreciated by 4.65 per cent to close at 82 kobo while Dangote Sugar went down by 3.55 per cent to close at N5.70 per share.

Speaking on the outlook for the market this week, analysts at Afrinvest Limited said, “While we expect more corporate announcements to drive activities this week as more players in the banking and consumer goods space submit their scorecards for full year 2015, we also see some profit taking following last week’s bargain hunting. Against this backdrop, we advise investors to overweigh on stock with consistent dividend paying history.”

The economy is starting to shape up for the better.
The stock market has been on a steady rise for the past two weeks.
It is only when it slides for some days that the wailers mostly from a region of a country wails.

I just dnt get it why they are happy when bad things happen to Nigeria. Aren't they Nigerians again?

We might have different political view but at least we all have one country.

Last bullet:
I bought dollar yesterday at yaba,Lagos for 250.if you doubt me,go to yaba or contact any bureau de change operator.

Things are bound to get better, especially as investors are becoming increasingly confident because of President Buhari's firm stand on issues, particularly devaluation. Thank goodness the oil price is also recovering quickly, at a time we are also focusing on diversifying from oil revenue.

The good times are coming...

Re: Stock Market Rally Continues, Gain 0.27% by Nwafoigbo: 10:50am On Mar 08, 2016
Not Everything is about PMB guys, increase in the price of oil is largely dependent on the supply freeze negotiation by major producers yes Nigeria is one of them but they don't have any power to decide otherwise. Secondly, the rebound in NSE is purely because of market forces and positive sentiments.

more positive news for Nigeria
Re: Stock Market Rally Continues, Gain 0.27% by kliverpool(m): 10:57am On Mar 08, 2016
It is a welcome development for our country. And it's because investors have seen that PMB is very serious about his No to devaluation stand. No body like uncertainty. We should also try and bring out positive news from naija, cos perception is also very important in economic development of a nation. It help boost investment and consumer spending. Just like TRUMP rhetoric is hurting the US economy. We should try and speak good of our nation online. We should dwell on positives.God bless Nigeria.

I beg to differ.

How many common men access forex to educate their kids abroad?
How many common men drinks moet, hennesy and other luxury lifestyle imported with forex?

Common men trains their kids in local schools such as lasu, esuth,ui etc
Common men highs up with monkey tail and ogosky instead of champagne, after all the end point of shayo is highness.
Common man fries stew with locally made red oil not imported cholesterol free vegetable oil.

Though common man suffers from the high cost of goods without local substitute, the argument of the direct effect of costly forex and it's impact on the life of the common man is usually exaggerated.
