The Government of Edo State have opened a new University in the home town of the State Governor. This is in addition to the numerous tertiary institutions in the state, which include Federal Government University (Uniben) and other privately owned Universities. This is not to mention the State owned University (Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma). That is badly under funded.

My question is:
1. Is this a way of generating fund without considering the quantity of education?

2. Why will a State Government abandon an already existing state owned institution (Ambrose Alli University) which is even under funded, to open another university in the home town of the governor?

3. Is this a love for education or politically moltivated ?

it's purely business, I learnt it a 70% Private Patnership & 30% government

don't be surprised the company that owns the 70% will be the same politicians.

Why do we need another university? When all others are underfunded

1.ambrose alli university
2. College of ekiadolor
3. Edo state polytechnic, usen
4. School or college of agriculture(not so sure of the name)

5.university of Benin
6.benson idahosa university

Why do we need another university?? Everyone mustn't go to the university!! if this was a standard technical school, it would have been better

Maybe it will help to reduce the influx of Edo state indigenes running to Europe in search for greener pasture.

You are so on point. Others include:
7. Igbinedion university, Okada
8. School of nursing & midwifery, etc
All in one state whether: private or Gov. Yet, the qualities of this tertiary institutions are doubtful. I agree a politician owns that 70%. Didn't mention name.
Meanwhile, the country needs more Technical Schools at this point.
I wonder how this country will develop with this so much mispriorities and greediness.

How will it help? 90% of the youth in Nigeria will run out of this country if the opportunity arises, regardless their state of origin. The numbers of underemployed and unemployed graduates are unthinkable. This country is only "comfortable" for the thieves, scammers, dubious businessmen and the politicians right now. The few honest men are living under pressure either from government or private individuals. The government don't have any plans for the future of this country. In fact, they are almost finish eating the future.

There is a big difference between SCHOOLING and EDUCATION. The reason why an EDUCATED SCHOOL DROP OUT WHITE will come to Nigeria to construct our roads, bridges, etc. While, a "SCHOOLED" ENGINEERING GRADUATE here can't patch a road.
Nigeria is got a long way to go

Guy this is not about GEJ, since oshiomole became governor, he has not invested on AAU and some other state owed institutions, they only thing he did was to increase their school fees. So who do Edo need another institution when it cannot take care of the existing ones. was it built because Oshiomole wants an institution sited at his hometown, well time will tell.
Re: Edo University, Iyamo: A Love For Education Or Politically Motivated by comos: 8:32am On Mar 11, 2016
The University will either be closed down or merged with other existing higher institution when PDP takes over.
