Women with placards and a huge banner staged a protest in the streets of Kano on Wednesday against the “rising cases of rape”. The protesters, made up of lawyers and religious leaders, plead with the authorities to do more to protect young children and ensure that rapists are brought to justice. This protest was organized by FIDA- International Federation of Women Lawyers (Kano State Chapter) According to one of the protesters,Husaina Aliyu Ibrahim,about 30 cases of rapes are reported weekly in the state.A mother of a 13-year-old said her daughter is still suffering from trauma and psychological stigma after she was raped by a 35-year-old man in January.
