The leadership of veteran soldiers of the 1967-1970 Nigerian Civil War, under the aegis of Care First for the Aged Welfare Development Association, CFAWDA, has drawn the attention of the Senate president, Senator Olusola Saraki and members of the National Assembly to their plight.

The national chairman of the veterans, Mr. Ubi Ikoi, who spoke in Abuja when the body submitted the nominal roll of its living members to the Senate president, said: “The nominal roll of our members now with the Senate is to enable the National Assembly especially those representing the South East states who fought during the civil war to be acquainted with the untold hardship of the members of the group.”

He regretted that since the war ended over 40 years ago, his members were yet to be compensated or integrated as promised them by the then military authority led by General Yakubu Gowon (retd) administration. He said that despite their laying down their arms during the civil war as ordered by the then army authority and series of efforts made to seek redress by the President Goodluck Jonathan administration over their plight, the situation has remained the same.
