Everybody wants blessings and breakthrough in life. Indeed, you desire progress in your endeavor. The irony is that, while people desire success, most people encounter failure on daily basis; instead of prosperity, many are bewitched by the forces of poverty. You wonder! What is the reason for all these adversities of life? The sole reason why people suffer unbearable pains, penury, sicknesses, sorrow, diseases, destitution, calamity and crisis is as a result of the presence of curses in their lives. Of course, blessing and curses are opposite, they are two antagonistic forces, they are like light and darkness, they are competitive in nature, they are not complimentary, and the presence of one drives away the other. My friend, if there is any curse in your life, you cannot enjoy God’s blessings. Unless you get rid of curses in your life, true blessings cannot come in.

WHAT THEN ARE CURSES?
Curses are spells, bad omen and evil pronouncements cast on people through the spoken word, or the evil design of men and evil powers. They are the direct manifestation of the inward desire of people who do not wish you well. When curses are pronounced upon an individual, the devil, evil spirits or demons are released to back them up; this is why some evil consequences are seen in manifestation. Although curses can come from your enemy, witches and wizards, native doctors, enchanters, false prophets and occultic men, yet, the principal transmission belt for curses is disobedience to the Word of God. (Deut.28:15.)
Sin is catastrophic, it is a killer disease, it opens doors to curses, it can lead to doom and disaster.
Understand this:
*Every sinner is under curse (Deut.28:15-68)
*Once curses are released upon a person or family, such curses can go on for several generations, unless they are broken.
*A family or person can inherit ancestral curse. Iniquities of the fathers can be visited upon their children (Exodus 20:15), this can lead to constant failure in business, marital unfaithfulness and unfruitfulness, defeat in the battles of life. If your father or fore-fathers were occultic, slave masters, witch doctors, oppressive traditional rulers, idol worshipers, magicians, etc, the dividend they reserve for you is ill-luck and curses.

REASONS FOR CURSES:
1. Disobedience, rebellion and injury to parents: (Deut 27:16; Exodus 20:12) If you rebel against your parents or abuse them, you are voluntarily digging your early grave.
2. Rudeness and disrespect to elders: When you abuse the elderly, you are cursing yourself, you place limit on your life span, and you evoke the forces of untimely death against yourself.
3. Selfishness and oppression of the poor: When you oppress your servants, maids, subordinates, you offend God. (James 5:4) Their tears and cry to God will constitute a barrier to you.
4. Marital unfaithfulness, infidelity and divorce. (Mal. 2:4-16) These vices are against the law of God.
5. Breaking of vows, covenants made with God and men.
6. Taking people’s land and inheritance, or removal of ancient land mark. (Deut.27:17)
7. Despising and mocking God’s servants and preachers.

CAN ONE BE FREE FROM CURSES?
If the son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed’ ( Jn. 8:36) Freedom from curses is a reality. The Lord Jesus has the power to set you free, but you must take the following indispensable steps:

1. Repentance: You must repent from every known sin.

2. Restitution: Every stolen item must be restored to the rightful owner. Apologize to those you slandered or abused.

3. Renunciations of evil life style: Dirty habits of smoking, fornication and prostitution, drunkenness, visiting occultic groups, etc, must be renounced without delay.

4. Remaining and abiding in Christ.

5. Prayer of faith. (1Chro.4:9-10) Pray violently with faith against every curse in your life. God’s appointed ministers can equally be of help in this regard. “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things are passed away…”
