To be qualified to work as a medical professional,
one would have to go through a prolonged
training in order to acquire some necessary
(complex) skills.

In addition to the unavoidable stress of studying
during these years, the money spent on fees ,
textbooks and other things is so much that it
could "break the bank."

For me, medicine is a highly esteemed
profession... Medical professionals are trained
specially to offer humanitarian services to the
society.

As professionals, medical practitioners are obliged
to uphold the principles, laws, ethics and
conventions of the practice...

Medical practitioners just like other Professionals
derive their income from their expertise...

But the big problem facing healthcare system
today is, too many hospitals place monetary
incentives ahead of people's welfare, especially in
Nigeria.

There are lots of pathetic stories about people
who lost their lives due to some preventable and
fixable medical conditions in some well known
hospitals here (I'm not mentioning names). Most
of these folks died probably because timely and
adequate attention was not given to them, maybe
because they couldn't make the cash deposits as
ordered.

... of course we have a handful of hospitals in
this country that are dedicated and committed to
providing selfless humanitarian services to the
society.

But the tragedy is that, it's difficult to separate
the rotten eggs from the good ones, except
you've been victimized severally and you picked
up some hints from your experiences or you have
some insider clue just like the ones I'm about to
show you in this post.

So, here are five ways to tell if a
hospital values money more than
people's lives :

Pointer #1 : You noticed that your hospital
doesn't have some of the core medical equipment
and specialist in-house, contrary to what they
told you at the point of registration. This is
obviously an indication that such hospital is more
concerned about profits than patients' welfare.

Pointer #2 : If you or someone close to you broke
down and was rushed to a hospital (you can call
it emergency if you like) -- and instead of doing
the needful to get the patient stabilized, they're
demanding for financial deposit first before
commencing treatment.
