Dr Ibe Kachikwu has joined President Muhammadu Buhari in apologising to Nigerians on the lingering fuel scarcity, but he promised that the massive queues at the various petrol stations will disappear in the next two days.

He spoke yesterday at a monitoring tour of filling stations in Abuja.

“I apologise to Nigerians for all the pains, nobody wants to see people spend up to two hours on fuel queues.

“The president is very bothered about this, and if there is anything that bothers him, it is the sight of people waiting for fuel but we are doing everything we can, the NNPC is taking the whole nation on its shoulders.

Kachikwu added that the corporation had massively increased its truck out petrol to depots and filling stations in the country.

“God willing, we will see this through and in the next one or two days, we should be clear and we are looking at long term

“Impressive, we have enough coming in, obviously the three days of strike hit us very badly but we are supplying an average of over 300 trucks again into Abuja.

” It is going to take a bit of while for the queues to clear off and we are hoping that between tomorrow and the next one, two days, the queues will all disappear.

“We are continuing to pump in, a lot of our stations are open 24 hours a day,” he said

The minister noted that as long term strategy, there would be the need to systemically look at how to prepare the nation in circumstances to respond to emergencies.

He said that he would initiate a long term solution to curb the menace of products scarcity in the country.

“We are obviously not getting it as well as we should,” he added.

What systems has the government put in place to compensate business that has collapsed as a result of this incompetence from government and what verifiable assurances are to be staked that such won't repeat its self again?

If it does not disappear by Monday, your "intelligent" minister must resign. It's about time he starts owning up to his irresponsible statements!

didn't you hear him talk about a long time plan of curbing the menace ? They are trying to fix a 16 year old problem, and all they can do in the course of doing that is being 'reactive' and, not 'proactive'. They are yet to create that stable platform that can create room for them to be proactive.

Let's give this government a chance. They will perform definitely, we all know the cause of the present challenge facing the government. The fall in the price of oil is the major factor here. Government earnings have dropped significantly.
Before this Government, petrol availability was 99% import. No refinery worked. Now importers can no longer import because of shortage of forex. The only way we can have adequate supply of petrol is if we have local refining capacity and that is what the present government is trying to do.
Government is surely going to make it happen, all they need is support and prayers. Our leadership is good now and in the near future things will be made right. Thank you all nigerians

Enough promises already get to work.

Most importantly how sure are we that this scarcity won't crop up again after 2months.

Leaders are meant to be men of very few words but Kachikwu is simply talkative. The queue out there today is horrendous but the man who likes to listen to himself must speak.

Please shut up and pray that the queue disappears ... Advise your paymaster to act more and talk less. All this stage managed show will not last for long. Nigerians need real leadership than dodgy people confusing Nigerians with English.
