We should be trying to balance trade with these countries expecially china, one would think they are our biggest buyer since they dump a lot of their products here
Maddam Oby, what do you produce that China will import? save for raw materials and extractive goods which we also need right now to tap into to kick start our manufacturing industry.

for now bro, nothing generate fast money than crude oil. Except if government on their own plans will focus on other resources apart from crude oil. I mean focusing on crude and other aspects of resources.

And when our oil dries up, what happens? Why not get them to invest in education and student exchange programs, so our citizens can learn how to build these infrastructure? This way, irregardless of what happens to oil, we'd have indigenous engineers who would be able to build and handle these projects.

I don't know o. But does it not look like we are selling Nigeria to China? You don't Give out your main source of income in exchange for anything o. Maybe when we can diversify the economy we can do that. But for now........

Dose infrastructures will help diversify the economy in the long run

Good roads and infrastructures attract investors and then industries that will create jobs and stuff

Everything will take time, maybe 2 - 3 years

I pray for a better 9ja

Right now, selling to China for like 18 months might not be a bad idea wink wink.

I don't mean give them for life, you can quantify how much an oil block would give you in a year, so rather than sell oil to China for cash, would trade for infrastructure.

I hope you get my drift

Wait a minute.. Is Nigeria being referred by the Chinese as Africa?
Anyway, this new collaboration thing sounds appealing. God will help us. God bless Nigeria. God bless all of us.

I get your drift. I just worry that every time we 'request' for infrastructure, we provide jobs for other citizens. Right now, there's an 18-year old German engineer building a private plane our GO's and business men are praying for.

But right now, we are stuck with the chicken and egg problem, We need infrastructure, which cost money that might be stolen. We can't get into serious manufacturing without power, we need money to get power, we don't really have money........

We just need to get the basics right and hopefully we can push on from there as a country.

I feel your concern, but that could be even more dangerous, the question of who get to determine the value of objects being traded, one side with superior capability to acquire information on the other side will negotiate based on how desperate the other side need what they have to offer and not the other way round, that way they rig the trade relation permanently, making sure you're always in need of their services. (West's style)
I say we deal with leakages/curruption, and get cash for our products, then shop freely. That's more or less the current plan.
