Governors from the seven northwestern states have pledged to collectively handle political issues affecting their states.

The leaders of all seven north-west states of Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Jigawa and Zamfara were present at the meeting in Katsina, except Kaduna state which was represented by deputy governor Bala Bantex.

Katsina will not become the official home of the governors’ forum after a secretariat was established during the meeting.
The governors made the commitment in a communique signed by governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state, a copy of which was distributed to reporters.

Although the forum was silent on the recent altercation between former Kano state governor Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, and his successor Abdullahi Ganduje, the resolution may not be unconnected with the political crisis rearing its head in the state.

In a two-page communique issued at the end of the forum’s meeting, the governors resolved to cooperate and ensure unity among the states to work together in tackling their shared monumental challenges.

“The forum is resolved to mobilize all major stakeholders in the zone on issues of general development even as it reaffirmed its stand on addressing the vices of armed robbery, cattle rustling, poor educational standard and almijirci,” they said in the pledge.
