After a Catholic church was vandalized last month, a nearby mosque donated thousands of dollars to help because it was “the least that they could do.”

Hamid Slimi, imam of the Sayeda Khadija Centre in Mississauga, Ont., paid a visit to a nearby St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic church after hearing about the incident through the media, The Toronto Star reports.

That’s where Father Camillo Lando showed him some of the footage of the attack that was caught on security video.

“It was a very bad scene,” Slimi told The Star. “The guy who did it ripped pages out of the Bible. He broke the altar. He threw the cross…”

“When I saw this, I thought it was pure injustice. It was just wrong.”

After seeing what had happened to the church in such explicit detail, Slimi informed his congregation about the incident and asked them to donate at a Friday sermon.

The congregation was able to raise almost $5,000 for the church in just one day.

A mosque in Mississauga has taken the holy words to heart and is donating thousands of dollars to help a nearby Catholic church clean up after it was hit with a spate of vulgar acts of vandalism last month.

A church whose £600 Christian Aid Week collection was stolen has had the money replaced by members of the neighbouring mosque.

Members of the Ilford Islamic Centre read about the crime in the local newspaper, the Ilford Recorder, and at Friday prayers the following day they donated enough to cover the church’s loss. They had also given money towards the original collection.

The Grand Mosque of Paris: A Story of How Muslims Saved Jews During the Holocaust
Karen Gray Ruelle and Deborah Durland DeSaix

Review by Naomi Kramer
The Grand Mosque of Paris is the story of the Muslim community of Paris during the Nazi occupation of World War II and their efforts to rescue Jews. The mosque constructed in 1926 had space for a community center, library, restaurant, clinic and apartments for the functionaries. It was built upon a labyrinth of subterranean tunnels and rooms, areas that had been excavated for building stones for the city of Paris. These underground passages and catacombs served as hiding places and escape routes for those hunted by the French police and Gestapo. The rescue and escape of Jews was under the leadership of the Rector, Si Kaddour Benghabrit, a sophisticated Algerianborn diplomat, who was considered the most powerful Muslim in France at the time. The clerics provided sanctuary, certificates of Muslim identity and safe passage for those who sought their help. This well written, concise history is enhanced by the beautiful double page oil paintings, which are most effective in conveying setting and mood. There is no personal narrative although this historical story has all the elements for a compelling novel as evidenced by the few examples given. It is noted that at least 100 Jews, downed Allied airmen, Resistance fighters and escaped prisoners of war, were also spirited to safety. These righteous saviors deserve to be honored and their deeds told. This book is appropriate for elementary school students who are studying WWII and/or the Holocaust, but would also interest older students and adults. An afterword, glossary and extensive bibliography is very informative and sheds light upon this important and little known story of the Holocaust. For ages 10 and up.

Muslims Raised Over $100,000 To Help Rebuild Black Churches In The South

Three Muslim organizations have raised over $100,000 to rebuild black churches in the South.

In the days following the shooting of nine people inside Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, a string of church fires at black worship centers in the South raised alarm on social media.

Authorities have not indicated that the fires are connected to Charleston, but the blazes made headlines in the wake of what many believe to have been the worst incident of racist terrorism in years. The Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative, the Arab-American Association of New York and Ummah Wide wanted to make sure these churches were restored as soon as possible.

The organizations joined forces to launch the “Respond With Love” campaign on July 2, stating on their fundraising page that "ALL houses of worship are sanctuaries, a place where all should feel safe."

The fundraiser started off with a goal of $10,000, but they hit that target within hours, Linda Sarsour, executive director of AAANY, said to HuffPost in an email. They increased the target amount a few more times, and the support kept flooding in.

The campaign closed on July 18, just after the end of the holy month of Ramadan, with a final total of $100,470.

Faatimah Knight, a theology student and one of the campaign's organizers, believes "Respond With Love" went viral because it contributes to a colorful, nuanced narrative about the Muslim community.

"It awakens [in] some and confirms in others that Muslims are diverse and varied and that many of our concerns are domestic concerns," Knight wrote in an email to HuffPost. "Also, Respond with Love is an anti-racism effort and there are many people in this country who are tired of racist rhetoric and racist motivated violence."

Sarsour guesses the majority of the donors were Muslims, based on the surnames of the 2,016 people who donated.

"Our campaign gave people the opportunity to take an extra step beyond just verbal solidarity," Sarsour said to HuffPost. "Our campaign united people of all faiths, it resonated and the fact that it was lead by Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan gave the campaign more meaning and legitimacy."

Sarsour said the Respond With Love team is leaning towards donating the money to the larger "Rebuild The Churches Fund," which was organized by the Episcopal Christ Church Cathedral in St. Louis, Missouri. That campaign has independently raised over $200,000 to rebuild six churches in Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida -- other churches may be added to the list.

"We hope this campaign encouraged non-Black Muslims to support the BlackLivesMatter Movement and remain committed to ending anti-Black racism in America," Sarsour said to HuffPost. "We have a [lot] of work to do. This is just the beginning."

Muslims raise $48,000 to rebuild burned black churches

(CNN)Several black churches across the South have burned in recent weeks, some due to what is believed to be arson, while others fell victim to natural disasters such as lightning.

The destruction of these black churches inspired a group of young Muslims from different parts of the country to put together a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to help rebuild them.

Faatimah Knight, a 23-year-old studying theology, started a campaign on LaunchGood with a group of friends to raise $50,000 during the month of Ramadan, a holy month for Muslims during which they fast and give alms.

The initial goal for the campaign was only $10,000, but the group surpassed that mark in just 12 hours after they launched. "Nearly broke the LaunchGood servers!" The website's Facebook page posted.

A group made up of different Muslim organisations has lit up a spark of hope for Christian communities who were affected by the recent spate of fires that razed predominantly African-American churches in the US.

The Arab American Association of New York (AAANY), Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative, and digital startup Umah Wide joined forces to raise funds that will be used to rebuild at least eight churches in four states mostly in the South.

American Muslims raise $30,000 to help repair black churches destroyed by fire

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/american-muslims-raise-30000-to-help-repair-black-churches-destroyed-by-fire-10375704.html

When Faatimah Knight reached out to her Muslim friends and acquaintances to try and help black churches that had been destroyed by fire, she had no idea how much they could collect.

Today, they have managed to raise just under $30,000 – money that will be used to help up to seven churches that were destroyed in the American south in the aftermath of the Charleston shooting and the campaign against the Confederate flag.

“We have been overwhelmed by how generous people have been,” Ms Knight, 23, told The Independent. “We will stop it today...We will figure out how to distribute the money.”

Muslim charities raise nearly $45,000 to rebuild burned-down black churches

Over the past several weeks, a handful of predominantly black churches across the South have burned down. Some were ruled arson, others accidents — but they still recalled racist attacks against black churches throughout American history.

The church fires followed the mass shooting at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, S.C., igniting concern over the possibility of a wave of hate crimes.

Three Muslim charities have since launched a “Respond with Love” crowdfunding campaign to damaged black churches rebuild and “stand united against hate.” The Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative, Arab American Association of New York and Ummah Wide have raised nearly $45,000 since starting the fundraiser last week.

“It’s Ramadan and we are experiencing firsthand the beauty and sanctity of our mosques during this holy month. ALL houses of worship are sanctuaries — a place where all should feel safe, a place we can seek refuge when the world is too much to bear,” campaign organizers said in a statement. “We want for others what we want for ourselves: the right to worship without intimidation, the right to safety and the right to property,” the statement also said

Muslim groups crowdfund to help burned Southern churches rebuild, ‘stand against hate’

NEW YORK — A fundraising campaign has been launched by a group of Muslims in the United States to help the seven black churches that recently burned down or suffered extensive damage. The group is using the platform LaunchGood and has already raised over $32,000.

The wave of incidents currently under investigation all began the week Dylann Roof allegedly killed nine church members inside the historical Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. He is currently behind bars charged with nine counts of murder.

The massacre occurred June 17, 2015. Since then churches of various denominations in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida have burned. Officials said three have been ruled arson, and several fires are still being investigated.

Muslims Help Christians Re-Build Their Church in Philippines... Incredibly Inspirational.

Christian residents in a small village were stunned when the local Muslims did something for them that they never expected. The local chapel, Christ the King, was destroyed during a 3 week-long battle between civil forces and the government. But then, Christians awoke one morning to a miracle: their Muslim neighbors were helping them rebuild.

Father Michael Ufana of the Saint Joseph parish said he was overwhelmed by what was happening in the community. Jesus taught us to love others… and we should. This act of kindness from the other side of the world is something we can truly learn from. Don't judge others because they are different. You should love them, because they are still our brothers and sisters in this world.

God bless.http://www.godvine.com/read/rebuild-church-394.html

You are surely playin the old islamic trick to deceive the infidels. Can you tell me a single church destroyed and damaged in egypt, sudan, yemen, iran, pakistan and other islamic countries that was re-built by muslims? It is not possible.

You arabs\muslims are snakes, very evil and dangerous. Wise people are no longer falling for these cheap islamic tricks. All the churches you alleged that were repaired by muslim assistance are all in non-muslim lands. You guys want to be accepted and understood in non-muslim lands, but as your population grows, your islamic demands grow, your intolerance grow, church attacks and destruction increases and your demand for special privilige grow as well.

Only an insane man trust a well known criminal\thief with his property and finances.
