NNPC Saves N1trn In Subsidy Removal, $1bn In Oil Importation —kachikwu by simpleseyi: 7:59am On Mar 17, 2016
MINISTER of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, on Tuesday, said under his leadership, Nigeria is saving N1 trillion in subsidy removal and $1 billion in fuel importation.
This was as he said for the first time, Nigeria’s refineries “are now ready to work.”
Kachikwu, who is also the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), said the change at the corporation was only just starting, adding that NNPC would be delivering profit in two to three months.
“All the changes that have happened so far, in case you do not know… but I’m sure you follow the numbers and the reports that we publish, but it has gone from an average deficit of over N30 billion to N3 billion in a period of six months,” he said.
“If you continue on this tangent, this company should continue to show monthly profitability in two to three months. That would be dramatic, and that is even before we have even started – because we haven’t started.
“This is simply through your 20 fixes; you deciding to cut costs, and to watch your expenses and there’s still a huge amount of expenses you still need to cut,” he said.
Kachikwu said for the first time, NNPC had met up with 75 per cent of its responsibility to the federation account.
“With the new DSDP programme, not solely designed by me, but by all of you, you’re saving the nation $1 billion in importation programme, $1bn.
“Look at the fact that with the removal or connivance on the removal of subsidy cost, you are saving the nation N1 trillion. For the first time, this organisation is not worrying about where to get the next subsidy money or who is going to pay it.
“For the first time, our refineries are ready now to work. Crude has been pumped from Brass to Port Harcourt. Pipeline is being used for the first time in six years. For the first time, we are able to pump to Ilorin, we have not done that in 10 years,” he added.
He assured that in two weeks, the refineries would begin to receive crude via pipelines.

It should be more than that o. We have been paying N8 to N16 on every liter of fuel.

He should tell us the average number of liters imported per day so we can do the estimate ourselves.

We need to know how much we even have in a federation account. Like how much has been recovered, how much has been collected by revenue house etc.

We were promised a transparent government.

Stop lying.

No SUBSIDY was ever removed.

SUBSIDY is the difference ( bridged by the government) between the price of imported refined fuel and the pump price that Nigerians pay for it.

When price of imported fuel( determined by the price of crude oil) is higher, the government pays a higher SUBSIDY.

Conversely, when the price of imported refined fuel is very low ( as a result of very low crude oil prices), then the government pays ZERO SUBSIDY.

In fact, the government is actually making a profit right now on every litre of fuel it sells to the Nigerian public.

At this period of very low oil prices, Nigerians should be demanding for lower pump prices.

It is a matter of simple arithmetic.

Stop the propaganda.

According to PPPRA, Nigeria consumes about 35 - 40m litres of PMS per day. You can do your maths now, pal.

Lying upon lying.
What has characterized this APC government is lies.
Kachikwu said few days ago that imported PMS is cheaper than locally refined. Now he is telling us another lie.
If Pastor Osinbajo would lie on a pulpit it means APC has enshrined lies in their lives.
No fuel in our filling stations and you are talking about money saved. Which wise father would starve his children just to have money in his bank account.
Nigeria is doomed because APC‘s chain‘ge‘ is seriously killing us gradually.

so this $1Trillion, is it for how many months and since when did we begging to subsidize for federal government? What is the average that we pay per litter given that the naira has been fluctuating against the dollar.

It will be difficult to do this estimate. But I believe it is more.

I also hope that it doesn't include revenue from oil export. It will be double ojoro for them to try to merge the two.

imported fuel is actually cheaper than locally refined fuel. That is why he is saying they saved $1tri on subsidy. We pay the difference to federal government.

If cost of locally refine petrol is N86 and that of imported is N76, we will still buy at the price of the locally refined, hence, contributing N10 to the government coffers.

That is what he is saying.

The calculation is wrong. Translate the suffering of the masses into the formula and let's see if you will still brag? Government's inaction or irresponsibility in making product available is disgraceful.

Savings can only be proudly recorded when you produce sufficient product and drastically reduce imported product. This is how to save money and not when you allow the masses take responsibility for the importation of petroleum product by bearing the cost of unsubsidized product . angry angry angry angry

NIGERIANS are not FOOLS.....APC please take note.

Let's work on a few assumptions (worst case scenario):
* 40m litres of PMS per day
* overage of N15/litre
* 10 months
---
* 40m x N15 = N600m overage per day
* N600m x 30 Days = N18b savings per month
* N18b x 10 months = N180b
---
The above analysis is very simplistic and may have a wide margin of error - since it may not account for a number of variables. However, the point was merely to provide some perspective about your assertion that saved figures should be significantly more than what is reported.

All laudable, fingers crossed though, 'cause tomorrow we will hear another 'tory'.

BTW, pipeline vandals should be shot at sight.

That is abou half of $1bil.
So the $1tril that they have saved, was it the amount they wold have paid as subsidy were it GEJ that is in office or the amount they have generated as revenue.

I guess they have a record of all the above, a public website to access such info won't be a bad idea.
