Pls my Honda babyboy is having power steering problem. If you start it in the morning or when driving in rain, it will be smooth and free but after sometime it will stiffing. I have seen my mechanic and he is proposing two solutions.

that I will either change the pump or the box. Both are no small money to gamble.

Pls anybody with good suggestion should help me.

if it is smooth in the morning and stiff in the afternoon, it may be that the holes or the pump is malfunctioning as ATF may me dropping into the pump when packed overnight and as soon as the oil in the pump is finished, it will become stiff.

Take it to LADIPO (if you are in Lagos) when you have time and ask for pple that specialises in Power Steering. Negotiate and pay after the work is done and tested.

Good Luck.

PS: It may just be a block holes in which you can empty ATF hold and ask a vulcaniser to flush it with Air. It worked on mine for just a N100 bucks.

@Obijack, Thanks man.

Im in Lagos but the car is in PH. I will ask them how to go about it in PH only that I dont know the full meaning of ATF so I can explain to the person.

Once again thanks

You may have a leak in your power steering system, check the level of you power steering fluid it might be low.
Or your power steering belt is slipping when hot.
When you car is difficult to steer, open the hood (with engine running)take off the lid of power steering reservoir and look at it while someone steers.

You should see your fluid level run low and air being sucked in by pump(if low).Honda does not use ATF (automatic transmission fluid ) to best of my knowledge, they use a special powersteering fluid different from other manufacturers.Look for one with label saying made for Honda and top it off.
If you put any other fluid it ill foam up then you'll have to do the flush.I am assuming that no one had messed with it prior to posting.

Other solution is to feel tension in your power steering belt, look at belt turning power steering, with engine not running press the middle and feel if the tension is as hard as a guitar string, if it feels weak tighten it a little more, you will be able to see the cause if you do the turning test with engine running.
