To some, he represents a voice of reasoning, to others he is just a noisemaker. Like him or hate him, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has become a voice to be reckoned with in this political dispensation in Nigeria. The Senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District has been dubbed the ‘Twitter Senator’ by critics.

While this post is not anyway intended to show alliance with any political entity, it focuses on certain lessons productive people can adopt in their social media network usage from how the Senator uses his. At the end of this post, you may have to reconsider how you use the social media.

Be consistent on the voice you portray on the social media. You may become a thought leader on that idea in the nearest future.

2. PASSION FOR PROGRESS


While some people use their social media account to complain, promote hate or discord, Bruce uses his to talk about progress.

Of course, there are problems all around. Some people are good at suggesting ways out of challenges. Leading such causes is another ballgame entirely. Don’t just express passion for progress, show how progress is sustainable.

3. USE HASHTAGS
A major instrument Senator Bruce uses in promoting his messages is the hashtag. Most famous among such hashtags is the #BuyNaijaToGrowTheNaira which was an effort to promote local content in the face of recent economic challenges.

This instrument gives any user the opportunity to filter their readings when they search for such ideas. You can’t do away with hashtags in promoting your ideas. You may create your own or make do with existing ones. Make sure you go for lovely ones when you do.

4. INFLUENCE
An element of social media is influence. People get to influence other users based on their ideas. Ben Bruce has become an influence others talk about however some wish not to. While not all his ideas are popular, many had been left discussing them.

Such should be expected as no one washes their dirty linen in public. He belongs to the opposition party and is just doing what opposition politicians would always do.

You don’t have to post your misdeeds on the social media. It may later come to haunt you in future. Be hesitant to post things that would put you in bad light. Positivity is of essence in this ‘world’ that ‘never forgets’. Think before you post.
