But if intelligence, hardwork, genuine smartness, etc need to be exported before it can show it's impact and then appreciated, then sth is wrong with the entity housing such potential intelligence in the first place. |

Sports › Re: The Problem With The Super Eagles And The Answers by 2cato: 10:03am On Mar 26, 2025 |
clown you must know more than the technical team owobokiri: All Hopes Are Not Yet Lost..
Contrary to all that has been said by a lot of people following the draw between Nigeria and Zimbabwe yesterday at the Uyo bird nest, i still beleive that this very Super Eagles team is good enough to get a qualification for the world cup. Don't let the result fool you. All the coaches need to do is to improve the defence and the midfield. Luckily, we have enough players doing relatively well in Europe in these two areas for the coaches to pick from. The midfield is slow. And the blame lies to a large extent with Ndidi.
Yesterday, he was one of the best players on the pitch. He was everywhere. Good tackles, good passes and very situationally aware. But he was slow. As usual, lately. He seems programmed to slow games. His game has become much slower over the last 3 years or so. The main reason you don't hear his name mentioned with clubs like Man United and co anymore. I think he has become a bit complacent at Leicester too. A move to say Spain or Italy might help him..
Then there is the dodgy defence. Bassy was really hungry and eager to get the win. You could see he put in his best. Ekong is always committed but was a tad slow. Most of the players started getting tired towards the end. Ola Aina was gasping for air and was basically kneeling before the equaliser.., and I think the coach should have thought of defending that goal, rather than thinking of scoring more at that point. My problem with the midfield is that much of the younger alternatives like Uche at Getafe are as slow as Ndidi.
We need more combative "enforcers" in the midfield. Onyeka comes to mind. I don't know why he was not invited. Injured? Lots of options in the defence across the best leagues in the world. Salisu should be recalled. I think the new coach should scout for more. You can't blame the coach anyways. He is pretty new to the fold.
Ola Aina should be played in his natural position which is the right full back. Salisu at Porto, should come back to the Super Eagles. He is a very descent left full back. Uche at Getafe, Orban at Hoffenhein, and Ejuke at Sevilla, should be brought back into the fold. They will make great impacts with their energetic displays. The Eagles need Ejuke and his quick penetrative dribbles. With the endless lists of deadly finishers we have, he can help to open up defences easily.
In all, the NFA should stand behind the team and the coaches with all the support they can get. This team is full of players in their primes. They need to be at the next world cup. Some of them will not be playing by the next two world cup, so basically, next years world cup is like their Swan song. Nigeria has the talents and we can still force ourselves into reckoning if the Eagles finish in top two. That might be a tall order, considering the fact that it means they have to win all their remaining games somewhat. But it is "doable" if the organisation aligns with the aspirations of everyone..
Godspeed to everyone.. |
