A 25-year-old woman identified as Juliana Adeyemo was allegedly killed by a yet-to-be identified person suspected to be a soldier attached to the 32 Artilery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Owena Baracks, Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The remains of Juliana, a recharge cards seller in the barracks, was reportedly found in the pool of her own blood in her apartment at Block 5, inside the barracks on the night of Sunday, March 13, 2016.

The husband of the deceased, Mr. Wale Adeyemo, who said he was not around when the incident happened but was informed on the telephone four days later, alleged that the killer carried out the dastardly act on his wife in the presence of her two children, adding that that were many cuts on her body which indicated that she was stabbed to death.

According to Mr. Adeyemo, one of the children, Dayo, a four-year old, during the interrogation revealed that it was a soldier that entered into their apartment and killed woman on the fateful day.

He added that as the deceased was struggling with her killer, she and her children were shouting and crying but none of the neighbours came around to rescue her, adding that after the deed, the killer carted away all the money and the recharge cards of his late wife.

Asked why the matter was not reported at the police station since his wife was a civilian living in the barracks, Mr. Adeyemo explained that he was told by the leadership of the Brigade not to report the matter at the police station, that army authority would handle it.

“I am appealing to the army authority and the government to help me arrest the killer of my wife, I don’t want the matter to be swept under the carpet,” Mr. Adeyemo appealed.

However the Public Relations Officer of the 32 Artilery Brigade, Captain Ojo Adelegan who confirmed the incident said the Brigade had commenced investigation on the matter.

Adelegan however denied that it was a soldier that carried out the dastardly act, assuring that the army would get to the root of the matter.

“It was unfortunate that the incident happened but I want to tell you that it was not a soldier that killed the woman, it is not possible, our soldiers cannot do such a thing, they are responsible officers, ” Adelegan stressed.
