Leading telecommunications services provider, Airtel Nigeria, has introduced a new Service Short Code, which empowers customers to choose, activate or deactivate their Value Added Service (VAS) subscription at any point in time.

First of its kind in the telecoms industry, customers are to dial *902# to choose from two options of either activating or deactivating a VAS or SMS service. The customer either presses 2 to deactivate or 1 to activate a service.

Speaking on the innovative service, the Chief Commercial Officer, Airtel Nigeria, Ahmad Mokhles, described the new offering as ‘placing power back in the hands of consumers’, as it enables them to easily decide what services to enjoy on the Smart Phone network.

Mr. Mokhles said: “With the introduction of the service short code, Airtel as a customer-centric brand has yet again, broken new grounds and also set another benchmark for the telecommunication industry in Nigeria.

“This simple-step service short code offers our customers ‘freedom of choice’ which ties with our commitment towards enriching the lives of Nigerians through the provision of exceptional service experience, driven by innovative products and services.

I fear dis pple.. What they are actually sayin is that there are 2 tinz involved. if you press 1, u are safe, cos its just goin 2 b handful of unsolicited sms dat wil b sent to ur phone. If you press 2, its goin to b a different bal game entirely. Unsolicited sms plus calls and unwarranted deduction of your airtime coupled wit data sucking. Dnt say i didn't tel u o.

So what does it mean exactly, what are we activating or deactivating
