The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has written to the National Assembly calling the attention of the lawmakers to what it described as avalanche of propaganda by Governor Ayodele Fayose in the media to mislead them and the public about crises in the state.

In a petition made available to Independent in Ado-Ekiti by Ayodele Paul Omotoso, the state secretary of the party, to Dr. Bukola Saraki, Senate President; Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the House of Representatives; and copied to the Senate Leader, Senate Majority Whip, Senate Minority Leader, the Embassy of the United States of America, the British Embassy and Delegation of the European Union, the party said its action became imperative in the face of “ceaseless lies and propaganda by the governor on Ekiti crisis to mislead the people to extract public sympathy and paint APC government in bad light”.

Omotoso specifically cited the governor’s allegation that APC instigated the Department of State Service (DSS) to arrest Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers preparatory to the impeachment of the governor.
He said that the governor’s allegation that DSS offered PDP lawmakers $1 million to impeach him was a calculated attempt to set Nigerians against the APC and paint DSS in bad light.

Attached to the letter were photographs of alleged physical injuries on APC members and destruction of their property, as well as various petitions to security agencies and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) drawing the attention of the National Assembly to the governor’s alleged acts of brutality against the opposition for which the security agencies allegedly had no answer.
Accusing Fayose of habitually stoking violence to cause crisis in the state, the party called the attention of the lawmakers to the report of the DSS panel set up by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to probe political murders in Ekiti State between 2004 and 2006, which “conclusively established that Governor Fayose had zero tolerance for the opposition.”

Omotoso also alleged that during the period, the governor, as confirmed by the security panel report, had a terror gang composed of policemen and thugs that the security report “established to have links with political murders reported in the state during the period”.
He noted that after the indicted police officers were transferred from the state as recommended in Obasanjo’s security report, Fayose made special request for their redeployment to the state after he was sworn in on October 16, 2014, alleging that the same officers were involved in the post-election attacks on the opposition, including the 19 APC lawmakers, during the skirmish at the House of Assembly last year.

Omotoso listed alleged instances of the governor’s breach of peace through violence and disregard to the Constitution, citing the invasion of the court to disrupt delivery of ruling by Justice Segun Ogunyemi on his perjury case, assault on Justice John Ademola Adeyeye by tearing his suit and forceful entry into the Chief Judge’s office to tear court’s records while the Chief Judge’s secretary was mercilessly beaten up.

Others, he said, include several gun attacks on the APC secretariat at Ajilosun, impeachment of APC Speaker by seven PDP members and “election” of a new PDP Speaker by six PDP members an the Assembly of 26 members, prevention of 19 APC members from sitting by using thugs to block the roads leading to the Assembly and various acts of violence against the opposition that the governor would manipulate in the media to implicate the opposition.

Omotoso cited the murder of Omolafe Aderiye, the drivers’ union leader, in which APC members were implicated and put in jail, saying: “Governor Fayose orchestrated false accusation against APC members over alleged murder of the drivers’ union leader, the late Omolafe Aderiye, by using a stooge to lie against APC members.

“Later, this governor’s principal witness in the case, who is also the late Aderiye’s personal assistant, Gbolahan Okeowo, recanted by swearing to another affidavit that Fayose’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ajayi Owoseni, and the governor’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, tore his first witness statement and forcibly gave him another written witness statement prepared by the duo to implicate the four men.

“The four APC members are still in jail as we write while this witness has since fled the state when his life was under threat by the governor’s men.”

Omotoso regretted that, in spite of the deluge of petitions to the security agencies on the governor’s alleged brutality and flagrant disregard to the rule of law, the party’s complaints have not been addressed by the appropriate authorities.

“We have not seen anything to suggest that our complaints are being addressed, and we want to believe that this inaction by these agencies has further emboldened the governor to be more daring, boundless, seemingly untouchable and above the law,” he said.

This APC no get work. Why can't you lodge your complaint to a court of law if you are genuine? APC should have gone to United Nations if the subject matter isn't a domestic affair which is within sovereignty of Nigeria.
