Good day Sir, there are lots of low budget models from various car manufacturer. The thing with cars is you be very clear on the history of the vehicle , since you are buying a used car.
That said your budget can get you a Nigerian used car of any of the following

1. Camry 2001
2. Accord 2003 to 2004
3. Jetta 2001 to 2003
4. Corolla 2003 to 2004
5. Civic 2004 to 2005

The above brands if in sound condition are relatively economical in fuel. As for maintenance, well there are so many 'after market parts' of Asian model cars on sale in nigeria, which gives the impression that service parts of Asian cars are cheap, but I tell you the original manufacturer parts of Asian cars are not cheap when compared to the Chinese copy (after market part).

I do not know so much about this model but I heard it has electrical issues. Previous model years have proven extreme durability. I also considered this model years before. Maybe someone here with a first hand experience can explain further.

It is really a nice car but the transmission is about 200k. I am sure you know the other issues that follows change of transmission? Also, the engine guzzles petrol. Generally, it is a sport car and really quick. You need more about 600k to work on that car if you get it at the mentioned budget.

VW Mechanics are not as much as other vehicle brands and when you do find any, its harder to find those that understand the VR5 engines that some VW come in.
My humble opion, when going for the VW Jetta buy the 4cylinder version. As for electrical issues, be sure the electrician you are engaging is conversant with VW's schematics.
By way of Causion, for any vehicle you are interested in, it helps to download the vehicles Owners Manual & Service Manual as well as scan your vehicle regularly for fault codes. If you do all three, you can direct the often times impatient mechanics on what the trouble shooting solution for a particular vehicle problem.

In their order of pocket friendliness, I'd advise you buy either of the following.

1. Corrolla
2. Camry
3. Civic
4. Accord.

Lolz true say. The Nissan Maxima is a superb Car, but it's not really meant for the nigerian environment.
